They should just change it to mid

Even though I know Michigan is Midwest. Looking at the map I would consider it more mid on the east side.

Just like when Virginia and Kentucky claim to be southern states.

The appropriate term should be North Central, but yeah.

I’m not sure if OP’s history class or geography class growing up let him down, but one or both of them sure did.

I’m guessing the mid west was named mid west when most of the US population lived along the East coast and the south.

My problem is with people from Maryland calling themselves southerners, but the same principal applies.

two things can be true.

Washington and Oregon are in the PAC NW. But they are also part of the Western 11.

I bet there are plenty of things you've never heard.

If you chase the Grateful Dead and WSP around as much as I have, you learn a whole lot of basic geography.

quote:

"The Western 11" refers to the eleven contiguous Western States in the United States. These states are: Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

So you think the census bureau got is right? What are you a democrat?

Look at the South Region? Look at the West Region and then look at the Northeast Region? Ultimately look at the Midwest Region and please explain to me like I am 5 how this makes sense?

Everything East of the Mississippi is East and everything West of the Mississippi is West. Everything North of the Mason Dixon line is North and South is South. There are Yankees and Southerners. Westerners and Midwesterners. Texas is in the South. Everything West of Texas is the West. No sure exactly what the Midwestern US is but they kind of give off a Yankee vibe.

It’s about Midwest as it gets? It’s certainly not west coast, northeast, or New England.

go the UP. Weirdest (not necessarily in a bad way) people in the US.

I just need to check with HeadCall to make sure he has heard of the UP because if not, it may not really be a place.

Reno, Nevada is west of Los Angeles. Yet we don’t think of Reno as a Pacific Coast city.

Biggest wow moment for me was when I realized that Maryland is borderline “the south” amongst the locals.

My Maryland in-laws think they are as “southern” as Charleston, South Carolina.
