No I don’t. I tend to like to overpack. So I follow the rules.
I check a bag and pay the fee. Also sometimes bring a rolling carryon that fits the guidelines. Bring a bag big enough for my laptop or purse if not bringing laptop. That goes at my feet, carryon in overhead bin.

DFW to NRT last week, I had a guy sit next to me that obviously hadn't showered in 2 days. 13 hrs flying next to that POS made me hate all people.
As for the carry on issue, I've never had to wait. I'm am normally in groups 1-4 so I hit the plane first and have an empty overhead bin at my seat when I get there.
OP probably should quit flying budget airlines with the rest of the poors.

It costs the same for a checked now days as it does for a carry on with many airlines.
Difference is some people don't trust the baggage handlers to take care or even get their bag their so they carry on, especially if its a two or three day quick business trip.

I hate to fly in general because of assholes. People who have bags too big for the overhead should be punched in the face repeatedly.

Have literally never experienced this at MSY and I've checked a bunch of bags on my way there. MSY and the NY airports are the slowest at it, the 2 places I frequent most
I've also had my bags delayed by 2 hours in Houston due to weather after we landed. That was fun
But I guess you're also coming from the last row of the plane instead of First or Comfort.

If the carry on is regulation size and fits there's no problem. If the jerks large briefcase and oversized carry on and take up the whole compartment, they should get faster checked and charged a premium.

lines at airports are ridiculous now a days. nothing better than showing up with boarding pass on phone walking straight to tsa pre-check and onto your flight . never had any issue fitting my spinner carry on in an overhead bin and my laptop bag under the seat in front of me.
last night i decided to check my carry on because i was traveling with a friend who checked hers. took an extra 20 minutes waiting for the damn baggage claim and this was after getting off the plane sitting basically on the wing and waiting in line to piss in the shitty 3 toilet bathroom in the terminal
