I'll have you know that my fictitious, Sudanese, retarded, menacing-driver, scamming grandson is NOT a homo!

Did he have the correct name of someone he is pretending to be? I don't see how in the world this scam works...
"This is your grandson"
"Which one?"
"Uhhh...John?"

He's off the line now. Unfortunately, the scam works. They call hundreds of people a day and only need to hook 1-3. There are a lot of elderly, with diminished mental state, even though many can still function, prepare meals, and even drive. And even pay a bill that comes in the mail with their checkbook.

But they have enough degraded capacity, that a fuzzy line call from a jail cell from a grandson, will work. Again, they only need to hook 1-3 per 10,000 and they could clear, guessing here, $700 to $2,000 USD.

Honestly they don't even have to be diminished, just naive and maybe a little hard of hearing.

Girl in my office had it happen to her. They knew the granddaughter's name (my coworker). Grandmother sent them like 800 bucks. They figured it out within an hour or two but it was too late.

I worked at a bank, and the elderly were like the filet mignon of scammer targets.

**phone rings, old lady answers**

"Hello?"

"Grandma? Grandma!?!?!"

"Timmy? Is that you? What's wrong Timmy?"

"Grandma, I'm in jail and I need money to get out."

"Oh dear Timmy. Where do I need to send the money?"

"Get a money order and send it to this PO Box."

Whenever I get a scammer call I love to just go off, usually as soon as they say something like "how are you today", and then I start talking as fast as I can (so they can't interrupt or get a word in) about how shitty my life is - I just caught my wife in bed with my best friend the other day, my 16 year old daughter is pregnant, and my arthritis and bunions are killing me, I've got $50,000 in credit card debt I can't pay off, etc. In fact I'm so depressed I was just sitting here with my gun contemplating killing myself. I had one Indian dude trying to talk me off the ledge for 20 minutes b/c he seriously thought I was on the verge of blowing my brains out.

This happened to my 82 year old Uncle.

He told them he was drinking and driving, ran a red light and hit a car with a pregnant woman in it and they took him to jail. Gave him the lawyers name and number to call that had it all ready to be cleared up.
My uncle called the lawyer, lawyer said send $5000 cash via UPS.

You could tell they were elderly by listening to them?
