You'd be better off giving the money to the step dad and letting him start a college fund for his kid. You were simply a sperm donor. Don't make this kid's life any more confusing. if the kid wants to meet you, let him seek you out when he gets older. Until then, I'd keep your distance.

The kid has started asking questions. He asked step dad what I look like, what my name is and how can he get in touch with me. It is not like I pursued this. They reached out to me and I am thankful for this opportunity.

Everybody on TD is an expert on every situation. Don't you know that by now?

Good luck to you though.

1st, props to you for trying to make this right.

2nd, for the life of me, I can't figure out why people come to this board that is full of 20 somethings, single guys, divorcees, older single guys that obviously have issues, otherwise would have kids by now if there weren't red flags about them (give or take a few that decide not to have children) for real life advice. This board of FULL of lack of family/kids experience. Just take a look at the first page to figure that out.

Listen to your lawyer.

Frankly I see nothing good coming out of this for you or the child.

I've gotta add some more to this thread. I feel sorry for anyone that gets mixed up with this chick.
More than anything I feel sad for this young man. It breaks my heart for him to feel like he does.

You're a real stand up guy for doing this.

If it was my child I would slowly build a relationship with him.

If you are truly a college graduate with a steady job and a decent head on your shoulders you might be the positive influence this kid will need in the future

Yes; if you're proven innocent the public would still think of you as a rapist. And I seriously doubt anyone would've worked to prove you weren't guilty. It only works the other way around.

I'm certainly no expert on the situation and don't think I have ever stayed in a Holiday Inn Express, but if there is not a 100% chance beyond any doubt that he is your child you could be embarking on the biggest mistake you could ever make for you and the child.

quote:

4 or 5 years down the road I see a picture of this child. There is no doubt he is my seed. Same everything, you could put my childhood pictures in with his and it would be difficult to tell who was who to a stranger.

This alone would make me question whether you are. I've been trying to think of anyone I know who's kids look like them or ever did and can't think of any. I didn't look like my father. My brother didn't look like me or our dad. Of all my four brothers and sisters none of us looked like our parents and everyone I grew up with that I can think of was the same.
