I'll take one. They're very easily house trained and so cute.

But really, they need to be in the wild. There's a few people on Instagram who have one but it was due to dire circumstances where the opossum couldn't go back into the wild.

Here's one that lives in New Orleans. His name is Sesame.

When I was little, I raised a litter of possums on bottles of goat milk. They were about like cats until they grew into adults. Then I let them go outside.

Yeah they'll use a litter box or pee pads like a cat.

How big are they under or over 6 inches and can they walk well/have good balance? That helps determine an approximate age. Looks like they may be self sufficiant a diet you can try is
1 part esbilac 1 part water and 1/2 part multi milk (animal milk replacement) and soak puppy food in it until it becomes soft.

See if they might eat some soft fruit

Put them in a crawfish sack and throw those nasty rats in a canal.

I don't agree with shooting them unless they are becoming a nuisance. They are native to Louisiana and are part of the ecology here.

An opossum would probably not be a good pet, but OP is a good person for wanting to help.

Possums are nasty and carry a badass virus that they pass to horses.

If I knew what shots they needed to keep me from getting opossumaids, I'd give you $100 for one. I passed on the chance at a baby raccoon a few years ago and always regretted it. Knew a kid back in the day with a pet opossum that would sit on his shoulder while he walked around the neighborhood. Found some babies on a dead mother once, but they were still tiny and hairless so we never would have been able to keep them alive.

Should I just bring them up to LSU Vet school in the AM?

Kill them. Kill them all.
Nasty creatures, possums are. I was attacked by a possom when I was a kid and have killed every one I could since then

I rescued one from a cat when I was a child. Kept him for a pet for about a month. He disappeared and I figured he was dead.

Fast forward and he shows up at the outdoor cat food months later, fully grown. I could tell it was him from the scars left by the cats.

I now have possums and raccoons visit my cat dishes nightly.

Anyone remember Fuzzbucket?

I'd put them back where I found them. The mom doesn't stay on the nest all day.
i thought they were marsupials, I would imagine if mom is not there she is smashed on the road. I recommend putting these out there with her

I think those possums are young, but not babies. I would try feeding them dogfood to see if they can eat solid food.

This. I killed a litter of 8 with a shovel. They were orphaned because I killed the mother seconds before I killed them. Nasty animals.
