I cant make this stuff up...

So, there is a hole-in-the-wall home cooking joint right up the road from the office. I eat there probably 3 times a week. It's run by all black women (who are extremely nice/genuine), and they frickin love me, and I frickin love their food.

I go in today, and there is two big black dudes in front of me in line. The girl behind the counter was serving them, but when she saw me in line, she said "heeeeeey baby, how you doing today? That's all the chicken we got left" (as she points at the chicken because she knows that I love their BBQ chicken). Any way this seemed to slightly upset one of the black dudes in front of me. Didn't think anything of it and continued on.

So at the end, they always ask what kind of bread you would like. I always get the jalepeno hotwater cornbread. As she is putting it in my to-go plate, I noticed it was fried longer than normal. So in a completely innocent way I say "That's alright I don't mind extra crispy at all." And the women behind the counter died laughing. It took me a second but I realized what I had said and it was pretty funny.



However, you honestly would have thought I dropped the n-word on the two dudes in front of me. They both turned on me at the same time with a look of "no way did this frickin honky just say he likes extra crispy". I guess in reality they were mad about "their" women showing a white boy more attention. And then took my comment completely out of context. In the end, I just found the entire situation to be very humorous.

I know, CSB, but I thought it was funny. And thought I would share with the OT. TGIF!


ETA: Geez how some of you would imply that I am racist is beyond me. And I don't think "extra crispy" offended anyone. I think they took it as I don't mind black women. They were the ones who laughed at first, not me. Im still slightly confused too.
