Drilling ahead. Im on some short radius curve work and the client shuts down today at 4pm until monday. Unheard of in the drilling world. So we are circulating bottoms up and pulling out the hole to run a kill string. Be on the road by noon

Congrats on losing your people soon. They’ll probably be updating their resumes today.

97% of meetings are useless anyway. I find most of them could be taken care of in a few emails. And this is one of those. It’s not like you’ll be assigned immediate action items before a 4-day weekend. And if was that necessary, he could call the meeting early Monday.

This is the most tryhard thread I've seen in a while.
seriously though. It reads like "look at me I can make people do things they don't want"
I'm sure he thinks he is really impressing upper management with his dedication and resolve when in reality probably just comes across like a try hard douche.
Regardless if it was a warranted and necessary meeting, I will never understand the desire of anyone to come here and talk about this asinine shite

I called a meeting for all of my direct reports. Yes I am that guy. It is for a new major customer order so it's legit. Anyone else doing actual work today?
I'm sure you won't create any long-term disrespect, morale issues, team unity concerns, or have anyone grumbling behind your back.
You will accomplish NOTHING at this meeting that you won't accomplish next Monday on 11/27. Except sewing seeds and creating a professional image of someone that gets atomic eye-rolls when they do sh!t like this.
ETA: I scheduled a meeting off-site for 10am today

This guy’s ego seems so big that he’ll call a meeting at 3 and cancel at 2:30 so it looks like he’s the most gracious boss ever. That’ll bring the employee moral up, right? RIGHT!?

Money is money. You’re not afraid of it and that’s why you have direct reports.

A leader would have called it for 10 am.
A leader would have called it for 11:30, had lunch waiting on his "direct reports", had the meeting while feeding them and then let everyone roll out.
But OP is a horrible manager of not only his employees but time as well

I’ll be working until at least 6. Won’t be home til 7:30 at the earliest. Thanksgiving is the busiest Wine holiday.

Most of my team was not free until 3 pm (other meetings). So there you go.
All of your team is available on 11/27. Reschedule. Don't be that guy.

I'll probably bring in pizza or something as a make up.
Wow. Pizza. WHAT A GUY! You just moved from Massengil all the way to Summer's Eve with that magnanimous move!

I am not exactly thrilled with the time either...
So unthrilled you came here and are now defending your ill-conceived reasoning. Seriously. Look yourself in the mirror. You're the type of person that people joke with each other about after work. You. That person. Staring in the mirror. YOU.

...but need to have it.
No...You need to have it because you're an @sshole and you enjoy the self-importance and feeling of control by forcing people to be places they don't want to be doing things they don't want to do.
The most hilarious part about this whole thing is that the content of the meeting and the goal will not be conveyed nor achieved. That's because 80-90% of the room will either be mentally checked out or totally PO'd or cynical towards you for doing this.
It will be more about tolerating you and a, "let's get this sh!t over with," attitude than, "focus up."
But hey...enjoy the power trip while you erode morale. I'm sure it's worth it to you.

You lack balls and suck at managing clients.

Beautiful, scenic downtown Crowley, LA.
But we'll be back just after lunch...which is when I'm fairly certain upper management's gonna cut us all loose anyway.

ah ! to me "offsite meeting" is either a bar, strip club or restaurant.
