Damn I can't wait to go....we are on the cusp of turning 40 (not the party people we used to be) so this island seems like it's perfect spot.
Curious to see the differences to Ambergris Caye.

Isla Mujeres is a wonderful island that isn't well known to Americans,
There is a biennial regatta that leaves the Northern Gulf of Mexico and finishes in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. I'm making plans to be in next year's race.

You'll love it. I'd refer to the thread when you actually get there so that you remember everything.
Do you know where you're going to stay?

Hottest salsa I've ever eaten. Could not believe it. Could not taste anything for over an hour.
The reef that's right there, go to the short side. All the fishes were there.

We are staying at Na Balam. I was lookg at those locked threads and Glassman had recommended it. It looks like it is right by the north beach, bars, restaurants, etc. and looks pretty relaxing at the same time.

It really is an amazing little island and one of my favorite places I've traveled to. I wanted to go back for our honeymoon I liked it so much. She said not for the honeymoon though, we have to go somewhere we haven't been. So it's Montego Bay for us in 2 weeks.
Since it's cheap and we fly for free, we will likely go back to Isla Mujeres for Christmas.

Good.
Look at the half moon cove near the top of the picture...that's Hotel Playa la Media Luna. If you ever go back, you should stay at that place for a change of scenery.
You're going to love it.

I had the same experience with a hamburger. I had been there for a week and wanted a good ole burger but what I got had a slice of ham on it! haha
Also made the mistake of ordering a fish special at a restaurant (cant remember the name) and it had me running for the nearest toilet...which by the way, they don't flush their tp there...you throw it in a bucket. I know that's no uncommon in a lot of places but it was a first for me!

Swing bar.
Sailfish bite doesn't start until January. If you're hell-bent on fishing, find an ex-pat. Indulge in the authentic Mexican seafood dishes (ceviche, conch, head-on fried snapper, spiny lobster). See Mayan stuff. No one goes anywhere without a golf cart

Also don't forget to hit Broncos and la casa blanca but go with a local. Most of the girls are built like linebackers.

Isla Mujeres is the same place that the "Booze Cruise" takes you to?
I've been twice. Only for Booz Cruises so it was at night.
And if The Cartel touched the hair on one gringo's or Euros head on that island Mexican tourism would collapse completely. There is enough corruption and inbreeding with Law Enforcement and Cartel and Government to know better.
Cancun and Cabo being Ghost Towns would be a calamity for Mexico.

Either sarcasm or you don't know a damned thing about Isla Mujeres. There is almost zero crime there.
I don't doubt it. I took the ferry to get there
with half of the Mexican Army aboard. Get off the island and see the sights as well.
