I just put window units in my kids rooms because their rooms are on the west side the house and they get hot as shite in the evening.

Remember last year when it was hotter in June than it was in July and August?

Same is going to happen this year…

Yeah, those portables from Home Depot can be a lifesaver.

I got one last year for my aunt. It did nothing. Took it back and got a small window unit. It blew snowballs.

Ours is new. And massive. Still can’t get it to 71 in the house. It’s just not happening. 74 is it. So we turned it up to 74.

Cut it down to 71 after the sun goes down. By the time I shower for work the next morning it’s getting it’s rest.

The a/c probably isn't the issue. Sounds more likely to be a poorly insulated home. Anything you can do to limit heat gain in the home will benefit you. Close the curtains, close the blinds, repair any damaged caulking and weather stripping around windows and doors, plant shade trees for future cooling, etc...these are cheap fixes. Look into better insulation ideas in the fall....better attic insulation and high quality windows.

Tricks to getting your house cooler is to put dark shades over all windows block out the sun and close doors to rooms that you aren’t using especially if those rooms have a lot of windows

Had a guy look at my system a couple of years ago and he said that it's working fine... He said that a new system would run me about $6000 for a 4 ton.. He would have to replace the outside unit and all the AC stuff in the attic minus the duct work... All because of the new freon the libs wanted... How many times have they changed their minds about the type of freon? I am sure that quote has gone up a couple thousand by now...
the shitty part is 410a is phasing out in 2025. This Freon deal is a joke, like everything else, except for LSU baseball.

I prefer foil in my windows. It also sends a message to the neighbors

I just replaced two units and 1 handler for $11,300. Praying the other three units don’t crap out this summer.

My a/c is chugging along without issue but this seems like a good price. How about you not be an a-hole and tell people who your contractor was

We have a 5 ton American Standard that's about 10 years old. I have it on 71 and it's kept the house a steady 72 all day. I'll take it.

I just got a quote for $28000 to replace our fricking AC

I had to buy a basic cheap 2.5 ton condensing unit this week for a rent house. I was quoted $1250. That was my cost straight from Goodman which I have a national buyer account with. A year or two ago they were around $800. Units have gone way up just this year and an A/C tech is still marking it up when he resells it to his customer on top of his labor.

I found a good deal on a slightly used unit instead.

hopefully the bandaid they put on yesterday gets us through the summer

If you don’t have to do it now, wait until December to get quotes. You’re likely to get a better deal. They know they have your feet to the fire right now when it’s 100 degrees outside.
