130 is really damn fast. Esp in a truck. For a long time speedometers on pickups only went up to 100 and they were governed at about 97. What kind of truck is this?

I agree about the engine damage question. If you run your average car/truck engine for hundreds of hours flat out they could eventually get damaged but surely it'll take some time.
My Mazda3's speed limiter is set to 118mph and I can neither confirm nor deny that I have verified that fact. Regardless I think a Focus could do 115mph.

I doubt his Focus is designed to run at 115 for any prolonged amount of time without enigne damage taking place. I'm not saying the engine will blow right then, but damage will occur, shortening the life of the motor.
ETA: Your truck and a Focus are two different animals.

What the hell were u driving that got up to 129?!
Or are u one of those people who'll brag about going 150 in their Corolla?
A 8psi original xb...
Damned thing was mechanically limited to 129...either 6300 or 6700 rpm...cant remember. Stock, they were aerodynamically limited to 104...but you couod draft up to 112 or so and finally hit the peak torque rpm...and it would then pull a little higher on its own.
With boost...just put the go pedal down. Best handling FWD car Ive ever owned with onky minor tweaking.
As for engine damage from running flat out... eh... higher cylinder prrssure does risk a headgasket failure, and you are techinicalky wearing the rings faster...but modt of the small 4 cylinders are so well balanced from the factory in an attempt to eliminate the 4 cylinder's natural vibes that they can hold 6000 rpm for hours on end.
That poor little xb I had 230k miles on it when a vice in the road totaled it. Thousands of miles of track time plus abusively long trips in its early days with only fuel stops...it never once even hiccuped.
My average rpm on a track day was 5k plus. My average rpm after it was retired from a daily driver was 4k+.

So instead of having one car on i-10 going over 100 mph you decided to take the law in your own hands and chase the guy and also drive over 100 mph. Real safe. How dumb are you?
I was following directions from the LA SP dispatch.
I find this all very hard to believe. If true, you deserve to have your license taken away for a very long time, along with your guns if you have any, because clearly you're a hothead lacking any kind of good judgment, and the dispatcher deserves to be fired at the very least.

i called one time about a semi truck they had me tell them the location of the truck and they would follow him by gps. just saying nothing else

The dispatchers are fine, they have protocal for this. If the caller can keep the vehice in sight it really helps. I'm sure his dipatcher never said " go as fast as he's going" it was a judgement call on his part. And a good one.

How is adding another 100+ mph driver making the situation any safer?
I can't believe how ignorant you guys are. Adding another is the best way to catch the guy. He could go up a mile and turn off the interstate, exactly how many LSP should be waiting at each exit until the guy is caught? You're right though, turn his plates in only, that way when he gets pulled over a month from now they won't have any record of this event.

how the frick do you know he was drunk?
What if he was rushing to get to his dying mother, father or daughter?
You should mind your own business.

But you don't think keeping the vehicle in sight is a good idea right?

I've been pulled over 30+ times (for real).
Why? Because I'm a red blooded American.

Hey dummy, he was talking about safety. Not how to best catch someone.

I admire Will's intentions, and he is most likely very capable of handling the situation safely. He also very likely prevented a horrible situation. I do however find it disturbing that a dispatcher will allow someone they know nothing about to drive at a high rate of speed to pursue an alleged dangerous driver. Police officers are trained to handle situations like that. I know a lot of people here have negative opinions about police, but at least from my experience, there is a thorough selection process for hiring officers. With this in mind, I find it poor practice for dispatchers to encourage and instruct those who want to do this. What is to stop someone from making up a story and doing this as a game, while drunk even? Again, I don't knock Will, and admire his courage and intentions, as well as getting a drunk driver off the road. But this is a bad policy for any law enforcement agency, if it is so. They have no way of evaluating a person's ability to manage such a situation on the phone.

Why do you people keep saying this? In the world of actual probability he likely prevented nothing.
