In an effort to tackle the area's 11th biggest traffic problem, the governor announced design-build solicitation for widening project of I-10 from Highland Road in East Baton Rouge Parish to LA 73 (Prairieville) in Ascension Parish.
Officials said a design-build method streamlines the process, because the same contractor both designs and constructs the expanded roadway , thereby increasing the amount of money that sole construction contractor can charge to the project during the inevitable overrun, when we identify 10 things we should have seen coming but didn't .
The stretch of interstate that will be widened is about 7 miles long. It would be widened from four to six lanes
In all serious I'm glad for any infrastructure improvements, I just wish they would rip off the band-aid of MS River crossing sooner rather than later - it's not going to get any cheaper.

So they are going to waste what
nothing...this may not be the complete solution for I10 but it is still very necessary work

they will do a study to see how many more studies they need...then when they find a location there will be more studies

We need a "catastrophic failure" of the bridge to get anything done.
Similar to i35 in Minneapolis.
If that happens you get a blank check from feds

I'd rather take the Edwin W. Edwards Loop:

That's great, but there should be a fourth auxiliary lane between Siegen and Highland (I-10 EB) and an extended acceleration lane from Highland on I-10 EB (going toward Dutchown or LA 73 interchange).
Siegen Lane and Highland should have a deceleration lane on I-10 WB.

and they may bring in those crews from china that build bridges in days

no these people need an exit immediately after highland and let them sit in traffic together. they chose to live in prarieville. let em sit in traffic together and let everyone else drive in peace

That's the dumbest thing I've read today.

they are still going to get in the far left and try to get over at the last second and the brake lights will ripple back to the shitty fricking bridge issues like it is now.
need a hov lane or express lane for those driving long distance. you could make it 20 lanes wide and prairieville people will be slowing everyone down

That's freaking AWESOME!! They can tie it into the southern loo... oh wait. Nevermind.

Good.
I-10 West-bound from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, once you hit Gonzales, is fricking awful.
Constantly have to slam on your brakes in the fast lane because of idiot drivers. Right lane routinely moving faster than the left lane. It's the most frustrating stretch of road I've ever driven.

It only took 15 years to widen from College Dr to Seigen so why not.

I don't disagree that here was alack of foresight there, but that doesn't justify adding lanes to 50 miles of interstate for no reason. You would have to see (unrealistically IMO) monumental population growth south LA to justify it.
Are you talking about the governor using money earmarked for fixing issues in Baton Rouge to widen I-10 in Breaux Bridge?
