I am a Area manager for a company that sells mattresses. Trust me. I know every mattress out there like the back of my hand. Sealy or Tempur. Bed in a box returns are over 40 percent. Compared to less than 3 percent for Tempur nationally, and 15 percent for Sealy. Sterns if 12 percent they have hybrids too, but Tempur is the same price and their hybrid has substantially better cooling(true cooling not cool to the touch) and substantially denser foam(it is 6x more dense than bed in the box foam at the base Tempur, and gets denser from there).
Then the mark up. Now Tempur has 100 percent mark up. Sealy has 125-140. Sterns has 225 percent.
Nectar a Queen bed cost 17 dollars to produce and total cost to Nectar to create is 28 dollars(including shipping). They cost 799.
That is every bed in a box basically. Their foam density is under 2.8 pounds per si in even the "premium" models. Compared to a 800 dollar Sealy. Which has 4.2.
Do your body a favor. Stay away from 17 dollar mattresses with 800 dollar tags.
Also every bed in a box in America has the foam made by the same company. There are only 8 actual companies producing all of them. Nectar itself has 8 other beds they make under different company names. Tuff and Needle is made by Simmons, etc. Its all an illusion to sell old technology(it is poly foam) for absurd prices.

What do you recommend for a guest room that will be used 15 times a year?

And let me guess, you sell Sealy and Tempur?

Sealy starter beds at 599 for a queen. Serta has some around the same. Go with either of those. Guest beds go coil. Foam does not sleep well for all I've learned so your guest would be happier most likely on coil(base models still have little transfer). Royal Ascott is a good choice.

Yep. Everyone does. Over 130 stores in my area have them for a reason. I also sell Beauty Rest and Simmons. Will never recommend to anyone. Ever.

Wow. You seem really passionate about where other people sleep.
ETA: Oh it's actually what you do for a living. That makes the zeal much more understandable.

These threads kill me. You always shite on the cheap mattresses, but so many people recommend them in the same threads. I need a mattress, and you seem way more informed, but large percentages of the comments are positive with some saying they have slept on them multiple years.

I got a king size mattress in a box from Wayfair in July and I’m still mad at myself. It was $475 shipped. So yeah in hindsight you definitely get what you pay for. My buddy that was absolutely raving about his must have gotten a kick back from the company. I looked into returning it but I’d thrown the box and the plastic away and if I would somehow have miraculously gotten it stuffed back into a box I’d have had to pay $100 or something to ship it back. My Simmons that I’d had since like 2003 blows it away. Giant piece of shite, do not recommend.

Can someone tell me precisely the moment we as a society decided mattresses were a commission sale based commodity, or that they warranted, for some people, buying on payment installment plans.
Dont misunderstand me, I certainly appreciate a good mattress. But I guess Im fortunate in that Im one of those people who just lay down, anywhere, and fall asleep. Bed. Couch. Floor. Car seat. Outside. Wherever.
I guess its never been a high priority because Ive always had solid sleep, so to me from the outside looking in it all seems like madness.

Its so individual dependent that its dumb to bother listening to anyone else's review of a mattress anyways.
For example I could easily sleep on the hard wood floor with a pillow as long as necessary. That doesnt help anyone out that cant sleep on a hard wood floor.
The one thing about the boxed mattresses is how hard it is to deal with if you find out its shite after you got it out of the box, generally speaking. Instead of feeling it first.

I mean I do it for a living so its grown on me a bit lol. You cant sell stuff you hate effectively.

Some people do sleep well on anything. A lot do not. Commission sells is a good way to keep employees motivated.

About 5 years ago we bought new mattresses for our second home. We had Tempurs in our primary house but went the bed in a box direction for the new house to save some coin based on the glowing reviews. We found the one we used in the master started breaking down after 2 years, replaced it with another brand of bed in a box (again with excellent reviews) it made it almost 3 years. Both were only slept on about 6 months a year and my wife and I together weigh about 290 pounds. The Tempur we have in the master in our other house has over 10 years of nights on it and it still looks and sleeps like new.
My opinion is if you have the budget for a Tempurpedic and you prefer memory foam you will be better served in the long run to just spend the money. I will say both the others we had were great for about the first year of use. The ones we have in spare bedrooms will likely last well over a decade with the minimal use they get.

I had Nectar on my show room for a year before promotion.
I sold 4. 3 were returned.
Why? When you actually go in a store and compare a bed in a box to a bed made by an actual bed company(bed in a box companies are marketing companies that sell beds), you feel the difference.
I promise. Just do a simple test. Go to any store. Push down hard on a bed in a box and squeeze it. Then do that to a 900 dollar Sealy or Serta.
Same price. Different results.

Purple hybrid (#2). About 6 months ago. Very comfortable but negligible affect on my back issues. Disappointed on that score bc it is the main reason I purchased it. That said, very comfortable mattress.

This. 2004 Tempur customers are now buying new ones.
Also the new ones do not sleep hot finally. Took them forever to fix that.

What’s a good mattress for kids? I need to buy a few and can’t buy them all tempurpedics
I looked at the mattress in a box but I just don’t trust that stuff
