NHC overstated its intensity all day. It looked more like a decaying cat 2 on radar and satellite as it made landfall. Dry air did a number on it. It’s been a while since a Gulf hurricane weakened before landfall
I watched that feed this AM where those guys and their caravan were driving through the eyewall and into the eye without difficulty. The rain was not impressive and they tried to hype the winds but the trees were bending like it was maybe 50 mph. Were the big cat 2-3 winds a much smaller part of the wind field or was this much less intense?

You have to remember, for a lot of people in this industry, this is their super bowl.

It definitely messed up the big bend area in FL, but all things considered it didn’t end up as bad as people were thinking it would in the early morning hours. It missed major metro areas.

It sounds like Florida was better prepared for this than Louisiana was for Katrina. When I came back to Metairie about two weeks after I had a Deputy Sherriff stop to check on me. He told me if I did not have a gun get one. I would bet that a lot of Floridian are prepared for any looters.

Apologies if it's already been covered but why is I-10 closed between Tallahassee and Live Oak? We came through the area a few hours ago and luckily 90 was easy going East. But westbound travelers were going to be in for a long evening. Just curious if it was downed trees or something else.

Apparently 1000s of trees down and some extensive flooding in Lowndes, and I can believe it looking at a lot pictures coming out from friends and families. 97% of Lowndes without power.

Florida had its “Katrina” in 1992. When Andrew hit South Florida, it’s building codes, evac, and emergency response laws/agencies were identical to Louisiana’s in 2005. Andrew would have been worse, but it was a small storm and made landfall at Homestead as opposed to West Palm, Ft Lauderdale or Miami.

About 10 minutes from Tallahassee. Looks like nothing happened so far. Madison will be a different story. I’m hoping the sun is still up so I can see but I don’t think it will be.
