Thank you that’s awesome.
Oh, it also has an SPC widget that you can put on your homescreen that updates automatically with the graphics. And it has the NWS forecast for your local area. Top notch app.

Thanks man
The only issue I've ever had with it is that the NOAA satellite loads really slowly.

where to find current wind speeds of a smaller location (I’m in Sebring)?
Accuweather has your max forecast for 73, with 86 gusts, between 4 and 5 am.

Best kept secret in all of weatherdome.
So I found it and the main thing I want - the NWS realtime observations that you screenshotted - isn’t on it. Everything else is.
ETA never mind I found it. The interface is what I’d expect from a free app

When I say it's breezy right now, I am putting it very, very lightly.

I'm assuming you're safe? Do you have power?
Posted on 10/9/24 at 11:40 pm to HoustonChick86
The power is back on at my house in Sarasota, but it's flickering on and off a lot. I'm shocked, as I thought it would be days.
Wind is still gusting pretty hard, but not as crazy as before. Going through the eye was a super weird experience.
Not sure if the damage yet, will be able to check more once the winds fully die down.

Oh, it'll annoy the shite out of you until you can figure out what is what and where it is. You can search that part two ways: by the map or by the station. It has a part where you can click on the state and go through the list of all the major stations. The map shows a whole bunch more, though.

One of my coworkers is right around there somewhere. She still had power when she text us when it hit yall so I was very thankful for that.

Yes, power. It has blinked but remained on. Thank you for asking, very kind. Not a big rain event, which is great. It's weird to hear the trees creek and the house shudder.
And why is anyone driving down I-75 at 1am during a hurricane?

Was it a bag of dicks that hit him?

I'm in Gainesville. For Helene my part of town sustained a lot of wind damage and all the power was out. For this one, my part of town has been pretty calm so far. Across town they got a lot more rain with a flood watch.
It's been interesting watching the weather channel people pretend they can't stand up in the storm while the camera never budges at all. I used to love TWC but now I think they sensationalize everything. These events are bad enough. They don't need to be hyped.

We just got our wind downgraded. We are now supposed to top out in the mid 80's, for gusts. we have gotten some stout wind, but this is no Irma.
The Ring app and Google maps say I-4 has a bunch of flooded spots. Also a lot of flooded homes. Those Ring Dingle bears have been asking who will deliver Pizza and what restaurants are open so they can make some poor shmuck bring them a burger in the hurricane.
Be careful down there.

Priorities, am I right? I did some work, didn't eat (Aspy come at me with an anorexia joke
Surprised to still have power. The winds have stopped. Off to sleep. It's been a long week.

quote:That's likely because they use very heavy, broadcast-grade tripods that cost upwards of $7k - $10k and have vibration absorbing pan/tilt heads to hold the camera. In addition, modern lenses are electronically stabilized using built-in gyro sensors deploying tiny motors that eliminate vibration, plus now the good production cameras now use built-in AI to frame a subject, and at 120Hz of frame speed, if there are vibrations, the AI compensates by intelligently stacking the frames using advanced algorithms so that when you get the image on your screen, it looks perfectly still.

And as if that wasn't enough, most cameramen under those conditions will hang a 50lb.bag of sand from the middle of the tripod, keeping the entire camera and tripod glued to the ground, with another three sandbags draped over the bottom of each leg of the tripod.

Anderson Cooper loves heavy sacks under tripods if you know what I mean.
