Euro and GFS have Jose hanging around and making Maria a fish storm before hitting the US mainland

As of the most recent ensembles, things are looking pretty good for the mainland US. Not so hot for Puerto Rico though.

Despite continued skepticism of the models handling of Jose, it's really fricking hard to ignore that signal. Which is also best solution on the table right now.

I'll take it until proven otherwise at this point. I dont think even the US could afford another Major Hurricane to hit a major population center.

Hopefully the loss of life in Puerto Rico is minimal, but the aid they'll get from the US may help rebuild crumbling infrastructure. I'm not suggesting the hurricane is a good thing, but money will be available that wasn't there before the storm.

They'll finally get the bailout that they desperately need

Wow....

Pressure that low would drain the Caribbean.

Saw that.

Huge concerns for loss of life in PR at this point.

Looks like St. Croix dodged the worst of Irma only to take Maria square in the chin.

Yeah, a few miles one way or the other are going to be pretty significant here with Maria. PR is fricked, but St. Croix may get spared the eye wall if they're lucky.

Wobbles really really matter for St. Croix here. A wobble twenty miles west at the right time could be the difference between a low end hurricane on St. Croix or the full fury of a Category 5.

Outflow game strong and symmetrical. Warm warm water and no shear. Eye is shrinking a little bit too. She's definitely getting stronger this morning.

An eye that small isn't likely to last the next 24 hours though. Im expecting a second eyewall to be apparent on radar by this afternoon.
