That certainly puts things in perspective. And people are worried about their vacations. We are one spoiled country.

And this storm got big so quick there's no way they got prepared for it.

Irma was hyped up for days. This one was kind of meh till the past 24 hours

That's the equivalent of a 15 mile wide EF4 - low EF5 tornado cutting across an island that's nearly 15 miles wide itself. I don't see how anything on that little island will make it out intact. Just crazy how quickly she intensified into this powerful little harbinger of death and destruction.

I wonder what kind of prep is even possible on PR? Obviously the few that are well off will find a way to leave or bunker down, but what about the majority low-income populace?

Are there any live feeds available for this?

I find it odd the lack of attention this is getting compared to Irma. It's just as dangerous and on a similar path

Breaking on Fox8 alert push but NWS says a Maria landfall in the US is now on the table.

Hopefully someone can up date this with link.

80,000 people live on this island versus 2000 on Barbuda. Just to give you some flavor for the population density.

It has always been on the table. Maria's track is so heavily dependent upon what Jose does and whether it moves on out quickly and/or maintains strength or fizzles out. If Jose slows down and remains strong, then a big weakness will be left behind for Maria to not hit the US. However, if Jose moves out or weakens a lot then the ridge can build back in and push this into the US at some point.

This is interesting. Jose is now stationary. He was moving north a few hours ago at 9 mph. This will make things interesting.,.will he turn east or even back south?

Jose stopped when it was supposed to keep tracking north holding steady as a Cat 1.

So a bit of good news for the US mainland so far

Ehh, I'm pretty sure this is some very loose interpretation of data from the NWS. It certainly isn't OFF the table, but to suggest it is some kind of breaking news alert is pretty shitty from Fox8.

ETA - It is still a very long way away.

Dominica is probably the most beautiful island in the Caribbean. A nature lovers dream.

I hate this hurricane season.

looks like the pressure came up but could be because they couldn't get the whole sample of the eye since part of it is on land.

Yeah that was a bad pass because of the island. Flight level winds were still 41kts on the lowest extrapolated pressure.
