Some people have family homes with decades of memories tied up in them or are actually local to the area.
And these same people would be jumping for joy if the hurricane turned and went straight up the arse of New Orleans.
What’s your point?
Hurricanes hit the Gulf coast regularly. Act and prepare accordingly.

I'm sure you have a cancellation due to weather caveat in your rental agreement?

I manage an Airbnb in Perdido Key and this family won't take the hint that they don't need to come down. I've been trying to explain this is bad, but its just not getting through.
I helped board up a friends house there yesterday. The fricking people were refusing to leave while we were covering all windows and doors with OSB

Yeah, I'm not worried about the money part of it. Was just waiting to see if it was going to keep turning eastward and pray that the shear ripped it up a good bit before cancelling. Doesn't look like its gonna be enough though.

Don't think that is the case in PK.

I mean look, living in south Louisiana my entire life, I'd probably never leave for a hurricane unless I or a family member of mine is on some sort of breathing machine or other device reliant on electricity. I can't say that I blame them for staying during a strong cat 2 or low end 3 hurricane. If they're high enough and in a sturdy enough building, they'll be fine. It's the days and weeks after that are hell.

They will turn right back around when they have no power
Problem will fix itself

Already had a big ole dead tree in Fairhope snap
That's the problem with trees. If they are weak or diseased, all it takes is about 50 mph or so gust to break a limb or stronger gusts snap the tree and then there goes power, if it is near a line.
Hope things are not too bad so that power can be restored quickly.

As the AI models get better and better...that could be a gamechanger
AI is going to be so damn good at weather prediction models in just a few years, I think. The amount of data it can churn through and learn from, it just makes sense.
The weather people on TV are purely just going to read and report AI very soon.

We left for Ida and it was the best decision. Our neighbors stayed and were stuck in a hall w/ no electricity for 8 hours.
If you're under mandatory evacuation, Insurance will cover a hotel. While they were miserable, we were in Houston in the sun for 3 days.
Of course we came home to a mess, but if it's covered, why not leave.
