Thanks Nursie! They still don't know. We are housebound now. Got great neighbors and a strong home. I don't want a direct blow, duh, but preparing for it. Baton Rouge was about 157 miles in-land. The gulf is about 9 miles to my west and the Atlantic is about 115 miles to my SE. It becomes a different game.
I worry about both wind and flooding here. Will check in as long as we have power. Saturday-Sunday should be interesting.

I was just watching the show and they happened to bring a weather guy in. Wasn't my call.

Your friend is a total fricking idiot for not evacuating with a one month old if he lives in Stuart. If he wants to die or get injured then more power to him but to bring a new born into this is selfish and dumb. He should have his child taken away from him.

damn Canadians
How ironic would it be if I evaced to Pensacola only to get hit by Irma. Honestly, I couldn't even be mad because most likely it would mean my house did just fine.

Your friend is going to be absolutely miserable evacuating with a one month old, but he's going to be 10x as miserable being stuck without power with a one month old.
This. The house will make it but power will be out for days/weeks with 90'degree temps.

Yeah and babies don't tolerate hot and humid well. That is gonna be one fussy baby for a long time.
Also...what happens if the baby gets sick during the storm and needs medical attention? How will he access care for the baby.

Im here in Tampa for the time being. Wife is on call this weekend and we are trying to decide what to do. Planning on packing the car and being ready to leave if things keep shifting west...if not for her call would have already left

A cat 4 to Savannah would be horrific. Atlanta would feel that too as a westward shift takes place after landfall.
The important thing to note is the GFS is shifting a bit more westward albeit not as far west as the Euro.

He should go ahead and kiss his house and baby goodbye now. It will save time later.
Tell his dumb arse to get to stepping.

CNN has a wider cone
So I go to CNN to see how fricked Mobile Bay is and their top page breaking headline is "Hillary Clinton to speak at Riverside Church about her faith."
Jeeeesus that place is insufferable.

I'm seeing a Cat 1 by Savannah according to NHC. I could see it being a 2 or even a 3 though, but I hope not.

is in Homestead (a mandatory evacuation area) and has two small children less than 2 years old. She says she is well stocked on baby formula.
The police should force her to leave IMO. If an adult wants to be stupid then fine, but she is endangering kids who have no choice
