I'm between Savannah and Tybee Island. What do you recommend?

We lived on Wilmington during Matthew and we left.

We were expecting it to be bad when we got back but even with the storm hitting at high tide we stayed dry even in the garage.

But I don't remember the rain count from Matthew. Storm surge was the big concern and talk in Savannah.

All that said, the neighbors stayed and their words were "never again."

This makes it look like Isaac is going to stay together and enter into the gulf.

Louisiana is not out of the woods. Could get hit with two hurricanes. Isaac and Joyce.

Folks, watch your acronyms/abbreviations in hurricane threads. Took me a minute to realize you meant "girlfriend's" and not the weather model.

The problem is with all that rain, a "weak" 85mph gust will take down trees easily, due to soil saturation, and put them on your house.

You're right.

A lot of roads in and out of towns and subdivisions are going to be covered up and down their length with tangles of big trees, limbs, and downed power lines where they are above ground. And this promises to be spread over an area comprising several states and not limited to only areas which experience hurricane force gusts.

Like you say, with heavily saturated ground you can have pretty big trees giving up the ghost easily with tropical storm strength winds and gusts.

It was hard to reach folks in the Bogalusa/Franklinton area right after Katrina. Seemed like there weren't enough chain saws on the planet to do the job.

Some models have Isaac re-forming as a Hurricane later in its westward track. After Florence hits land and weakens a bit, her outflow will no longer impede Isaac, and Isaac can strengthen. Isaac is a slight threat to turn North into Louisiana as a Hurricane.

TS Joyce is predicted to form soon. This storm could definitely hit Louisiana and has a slight chance of being a Hurricane if it does hit.

La. baws can relax in November, not in Sept.

Saw several tracks on what would become Joyce coming in around the Corpus/Rockport area in Texas this morning on FB. No idea what model it was but it had it tracking NW toward west Texas.

We went from 60% chance of development at 8:00am to a hurricane hitting LA before 9:30.

the last place I'd want to be in a typical summer storm is a trailer... let alone a major hurricane (I'll admit I have no idea where Ridgeville is... so it could be way inland and on the outskirts of the cone for all I know)

If leaving for a week or two is financially and logistically possible, it's by far the easiest thing to do. Board up, pack your shite, then leave. No need to chase down supplies and what not, just come back when the power is on.

Unfortunately that's not remotely feasible for many.

For Gustav, in Baton Rouge some spots were out of power for 2-close to 3 weeks.

This looks to be a similar wind situation inland, but this one is a slower mover
