Charlotte and Raleigh have a lot of hotels available for those leaving the coast

I can only tell you what my friend told me. He's a doctor in Wilmington.

I'd assume they called for evac to start at a certain time and it hasn't hit yet (like say sometime this evening) which would give those closer to the coast a chance to get out first

just a thought

Are the flags in Mytrle Beach still flying half-staffed today because of John McCain?

ETA: It's currently just voluntary.
Don't get me wrong, If I lived in Carolina/Bch/Kure Bch Wilmington I would have evacuated by now. It's just that for them to order Wilm they would have to order 1-40 both ways out West and that is a BFD here not done as well or easily as Louisiana does.

I am surprised that Carolina Beach is not on the mand evac list they are the front part of pleasure island and Kure Bch the rest and they are on the list...

A lot of the projects/hoods are in Wilmington; and unless someone sends them a car and by force they never leave

Not to get too poliboard, but I bet quite a few politicians and members of the MSM are licking their chops at the prospect of these people staying and being in harms way. They probably have the speeches and reports ready to go for this weekend. How long before this is made all about Trump?

GOES-16 high-resolution water vapor imagery indicates that the
amplifying large-scale flow pattern across CONUS is inducing a
downstream ridge over the western Atlantic, with a high pressure
cell centered northwest of Bermuda. This blocking ridge pattern is
expected to keep Florence moving west-northwestward to northwest at
around 15 kt for the next 48 hours or so. However, embedded within
the large-scale flow is a weak shortwave trough over the central and
southern Plains that is expected to eject out northeastward and
weaken the ridging across the mid-Atlantic and southeastern U.S.,
causing Florence to slow down significantly in 72 hours as the
powerful hurricane approaches the Carolinas. On days 4 and 5, an
even slower motion or drift to the west and northwest is forecast,
which will exacerbate the heavy rainfall threat

Well lets hope this doesnt happen.
