South Carolina isn’t going to get hit too badly if it keeps ticking northward.

was just at my friends beach house in surf city 4 days ago. He fears it might not be there soon.

I was at North Topsail Island Beach earlier this year.

The North half of the island may not even be there by the end of the week.

Maybe this will force them to rebuild French creek, when I was there that place was a complete shite hole 2008-2011

That whole area is going to be a swamp all up and down 17. Roads will be under probably. Western Ave will be trashed more than it is. At least all the new restaurants & stores are further down on Western, but I'm sure it will still be bad.

This will be more than a flood.

This could be a direct hit from a Cat 4+ monster.

Anyone have a map of the potential storm surge? Seeing if I can be of help convincing someone to leave Kitty Hawk.

Depending on where she is on Kitty Hawk, the surge maps actually show a surprising amount of the island being dry.

I wouldn't stay on a barrier island during a hurricane out of principle though.

The North side of the island already has massive erosion issues.

It literally could wash away massive portions of the island.

Prayers for every one down there.

GFS running now. It appears to be moving closer toward the Euro solution with a central NC landfall, at least through the next 66 hours.

Dumb question I guess...

Could a storm like this hitting in this part of the country have a major affect on our national infrastructure? Like could this affect power distribution to a much larger area than it hits? Power plants and such...

Every year I talk to people who visit the Outer Banks and say it's gorgeous and they wonder why it's not more developed and I tell them that every 3-4 year it gets wiped out by a hurricane, which is a damn shame because it really is a beautiful area.

Beautiful, yes. But, not meant for being habitable, really. There are islands basically stretching from Mobile Bay on south of New Orleans, but they really aren't meant to develop homes on. Just too fragile of an environment. the one that is most built up is Dauphin Island, AL, which got tore up during Ivan in 04. A storm like Florence may wipe every home off that island.
