You really can't trust anything from these sensationalist assholes. I don't even remember tropical storms existing 30 years ago. Nevermind T. depressions, invests and "waves".

I agree with your premise but all of these things are not new.
I personally believe advancements in technology and instrumentation have enabled us to identify the conditions necessary to classify those storms a lot more efficiently. 40 years ago and longer those storms would have passed as just a blip on the radar or without us being able to obtain the measurements necessary.

Do you want to stick with this? Because I'm going to give you a chance to retract this statement before I prove you wrong. Thirty years really isn't that long ago.

Those things absolutely existed. What didn't exist back then was any easily accessible source of weather information outside the Weather Channel, 3 minute segment on your local news, or a short blurb in the newspapers.
Now we all have direct access to all the forcasting models and detailed NHC discussions, neither of them sensationalist resources, as well as the internet forums to discuss this with meteorologists/non-meteorologists alike, which also has a habit of keeping things alive (e.g. hurricane seasonal predictions).

well that went over your head. you really thought someone thought that the weather conditions that make up a tropical storm didn't exist 30 years ago? wat?
obviously it was about the sensationalism, you illiterate frick.

Oh for frick's sake. You said, or implied by saying you don't remember it, that they didn't name tropical storms 30 years ago. Forgive me if I misunderstood your babbling.

In 1993 I was living in florida and we got a tropical depression while other parts of the country were hit with a blizzard.
It was the storm of the century or some shite, more than 30 years ago now.
Basically started by a volcanic eruption, not your gas stove.

Yeah, it killed over 300 people, did $5.5 billion in damage, knocked put power to over 10 million people, dumped almost five feet of snow in the mountains of TN/NC and over a foot in parts of AL. It also produced a 100mph wind gust and a handful of tornadoes, directly impacted 26 states and most of eastern Canada.

Crazy how a small group of islands over 600 miles from any other land gets hit fairly often by tropical systems. This will be the 4th direct or nearly direct hit by a Category 2 or higher since 2014.
Total land area of only 21 square miles.

Live Webcam link from Bermuda cruise port terminal.. Can't see much, but it also has audio that sounds as expected for the eyewall of a hurricane.
ETA - you can see now that it is daytime.

I didn't realize Bermuda was in the middle of the Atlantic
I guess I always associated it with being sort of Caribbean
