I had a job on a vessel going to puerto rico a few years ago for disaster assistance and it was an absolute shitshow from the word go from fema. The amount of 'red tape' was eye opening

Someone at work was trying to send me down there about a year ago. Turned that shite down with the quickness.

The Bahamas probably has much more lax regulations on that kind of stuff.

Yeah, f that. I'd need at least half upfront.

Mob and demob as well as 2 months are paid upfront along with a 6-12 month Guarantee

I was committed to going. The fema contract just fell through and I couldnt wait around any longer. Luckily, I pulled the trigger elsewhere. The ship never made it down there

Friend of mine turned down work there also right away. His company was going to send him down there for a minimum a year but couldnt guarantee his spot back in the states when his time there was up. A genuine wtf offer

I shite you not I just an an email from MARAD and the U.S. Department of Transportation requesting quotes for equipment and this was included in the email

quote:

Please complete the attached EXCEL spreadsheet if you can assist in any way. Note this request is a bit unusual as we are wondering if the services might be donated or if not donated, what the estimated cost might be for planning purposes. Again, your cost inputs are for planning purposes only.

It sounds like they are begging you to give them the "I don't want to do it" rate.

I’ve already turned down 2 calls today. I’m going to sleep on this one since it came straight from Washington, but my response will be about the same.

That's a shame. You want to get involved, and be helpful but the largest corporation on the planet wants to act squirrely about paying. I used to do a lot of work for these types of clients, but had to cut them loose. Net 120 and net 180 turns into chasing your money at 120 and 180.

It just cost so much time and money to mobilize from the GOM to the Bahamas or the Caribbean people don’t realize the mob and demob cost sometimes, often outweighs the cost/charter of the equipment.
Companies can’t afford to float those cost for 90-180 days.

That is insane.

It takes up to weeks of man power just to prep all that not including the cost of logistics.

That's a lot of money to float for that long. Mobilization fees should be paid up front. Now you can float the demob because you should have enough cash flow by the end of the job but damn sure not on the front side.
