The only thing I watch on TV is college sports. As society dumbs down, the content has become embarrassing.

Wasn't the village from the TV show "Murder She Wrote" the most dangerous fictional show outside of "Tom and Jerry" and "The Three Stooges?"

I get what you are saying...television "programs" suck today, but humans have been negative since day 1. If not, then explain Gladiators, the Crusades, and the Salem Witch Trials.

Free will is a mofo, but at least we have a choice in how we view things. Parents need to do a better job.

Peace amigo.

Couldn’t agree more, and the really dumb one is me for paying for all those damn channels I have no interest in watching. There’s just so little on that interests me, and watching the news has become about as interesting to me as absolutely nothing. I’ll occasionally watch some old westerns or an old TCM movie or whatever, but it’s all become so uninteresting that besides sports, as you alluded to, I don’t really know why I even have a TV anymore.

I would tie it to our human instinct of fight or flight. As much as we’ve developed this civilization that we think trumps the animal world, we still have basic instincts tied to most of our movement and thought processes. Survival is a big one.

Nah. It's been like this from the beginning. It's called religion. People have been fearing one God or another since day one.

It’s true. People in general crave drama. When their lives don’t have any they seek it. It’s an emotion we crave and feed off of. I’m sure their is some scientific reasoning like our bodies putting off some kinda endorphin that gets us high.

There are more people today who seem to have a negative view of the world. And if you let the news consume you it is understandable why people have become this way.

I honestly think there are people who subconsciously enjoys the chaos and negativity because following it, complaining about it, etc is part of who they are. That.. Or they fuel off of drama. And there is a lot of drama in the whole "these are bad times, we are screwed" mindset because in their mind they can connect just about anything negative to it.

And they hate when someone tells them otherwise..

I think human beings are bored. That's why we look for negativity and the worst case scenarios in the most mundane stupid shite.

We spent a few hundred thousand years constantly exhausting ourselves chasing after physically superior animals. Our women spent their days child bearing, child rearing, and/or harvesting and organizing crops, supplies, and homes.

We were always one day away from total decimation and were on the lookout for other tribes, predators, or natural disasters.

Now? There's barely anything to worry about. Sure, the occasional natural disaster. Wars occur, but most of us aren't required to fight and the majority of the world will never experience the battlefield.

We don't have to hunt or even use our bodies to survive outside of our brain and fingers. People get morbidly obese gorging on what was at one time once-a-year quality and quantity of food. If tribes ever had a large celebratory meal at all. Now we consume high fat, high sugar, high calorie, and high taste meals multiple times a day. And all we're expected to do in order to receive such meals is think and make words show up on a screen.

So I don't think it's something inherently wrong with the news or movies or video games where it activates our sense of negativity and doomsday thinking. I think we're always primed to think that way and have nothing to really worry about, so we focus on trivial shite and attempt to find a way to expend our pent-up energy.

That’s not even true...

I just need to watch things die from a good safe distance, vicariously I live while the whole world dies...
