WASHINGTON (KOKH) — The Food and Drug Administration has upgraded a recall of hundreds of thousands of bags of Zapp’s and Dirty potato chips to its highest warning level, citing a “reasonable” chance that consuming the products could cause serious illness or death.
Officials say they are recalling more than 650,000 bags of Zapp's and Dirty potato chips over a possible salmonella contamination.
The Class I recall involves chips voluntarily recalled by Utz Quality Foods in May after the company learned a seasoning ingredient made with dry milk powder could potentially contain salmonella.
Utz Quality Foods said no illnesses have been reported.
The recalled chips were sold nationwide and include several Zapp’s and Dirty brand flavors.

So I'm okay finishing this bag of Hotter N Hot Jalapeno chips?
(Which, I would note, are not that hot. Miss Vickie's blows it away.)

We need a volunteer to head down to Gramercy
ETA: TIL no longer made in Louisiana
quote:
No, Zapp's potato chips are no longer manufactured in Louisiana. Following Hurricane Ida in August 2021, the brand's historic production plant in Gramercy, Louisiana, sustained irreparable damage and was permanently shuttered.
The brand is still managed as a wholly-owned subsidiary by Utz Brands, based in Hanover, Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania is very close to New York where the high numbers of explosive poops have been.

Doesn’t include Zapps Jalapeño, bc that would destroy any bacteria in your colon.

Salmonella will give you diarrhea. But...
quote:
Utz Quality Foods said no illnesses have been reported.
The explosive diarrhea outbreak is coming from your vegetables that were contaminated with poop. Or you drank poop water.

Even if it was, it's coming from powdered milk ingredient that's made in California.
quote:
The issue stems from a powder seasoning ingredient made with dry milk powder sourced from California Dairies.
They issued the original recall.

The cause of the recall is the milk powder used in the seasoning on the potato chips, which had been separately recalled because it could contain salmonella. That led to Utz initiating a voluntary recall of some of its Zapp’s and Dirty brand potato chips.
The recalled milk powder, which was sourced from California Dairies and supplied by a third-party supplier, tested negative for salmonella before it was used in the potato chips. But Utz has said it is recalling the potentially affected chips across the country out of an abundance of caution.
I think most folks will be okay with this one. No positive test for salmonella and no reported illnesses by Utz.

I've moved on to Miss Vickie's. Zapps aren't as good as they used to be.
