Yeah, I just haven't put in the time yet. That 7-9 iron chip is a bitch if you haven't practiced and gotten the feel for it. Lots of runners passed the hole if not

Whenever I get a new set, I'm going to go 3-9 irons, and order the PW separately--probably get a 45 degree wedge--to try and eliminate this problem. The ball seems to "trampoline" too much with a muscle backed wedge/iron.

Looking at the new ap2's. I was amazed how missed shots went just about the same distance as the pure shots.

We are enjoying unseasonable warmer weather weather here in NE Ohio. Played last weekend and forecast is for 60deg Saturday and playing again. Playing the best golf in my short golfing life (5 years). Early in year I was consistently in the 95-105 range. Have managed to get it to never topping 100 and getting closer to 90 every round. Had a birdie and 2 pars Sunday but still had 2 7's and an 8. If I could just keep the blowup holes off my card I could break 90 a lot. It is tempo with me. When I get "jerky" on the downswing, things go bad.

Damn I love this game.

Keep chopping away. Try hitting 50%-75% shots on the range or even in a net at home. Just worry about solid contact. Then, slowly speed it up.
It's the most frustratingly fun game in the world.

Be careful with this. I've had multiple fitters tell me the same thing in that using a 46* wedge instead of a PW is only ideal for certain types of swings and impacts. If you can create the spin and flight a wedge, it may be for you, but a PW is going to be more consistent in the long run.

Rule out everything else if your PW is giving you an issue before doing that

What's the best tip to stop hitting it towards the toe? I've tried standing a touch closer to the ball but the impact tape says I'm somehow adjusting and still contacting it off-center...towards the toe.

I mean, it's playable but not flush contact. Then when I manage to catch one sweet on the rare occasion, of course it flies the green.

I would pull your back swing in more and push your down swing out a little, this might cause you to catch it more towards the heel of the club.

This could be a fitting issue, and have nothing to do with your swing. Consistently hitting the ball toward the toe means your clubs are too flat. If you've adjusted and your face impact is still towards the toe, it means you are coming way over the top. Try starting your downswing with your hips, and swinging "under" your shoulders and not around them.

This is the most simple picture I could find to illustrate that...

I don't mean to be rude, but that picture is the exact opposite of what you said.

Bringing the club inside on the backswing, and "pushing it out" on the downswing is what causes an over the top swing, not what prevents it.

Can you clarify what you mean?

Well if he says he always hitting the ball on the toe that means his swing is to far from his body. Bringing his arms in on the back swing would bring the club closer to his body and force him to adjust the downswing on a more direct flight towards the center of the ball. I think that's what I meant.

ETA: I am a lefty, so I was trying to visual the picture from my stance, maybe that's what confused me.

Not necessarily. That could be a factor, but it's one of the most easily identifiable and easiest to fix. I believe he stated he's already tried that.

I think I understand what you mean, but it seems as though you've "fixed" his problem by causing two more problems. In its very essence, that act of bringing it in on the backswing, and out on the follow through, is what causes toe-hit shots (in-out swing/coming over the top).

Now that my ankles have healed up from the turkey fryer incident, I'm back up and running.

Got 45 minutes of cardio in this morning and banged out 5 sets of deadlift.

For those new to golf, deadlifts are where you're gonna make most of your #Gainz in the quest for 4Hundo.

Yeah I see where that could be an issue. I usually hit my 130 yard and in shots great. Amazing with a wedge. My issues is driving the ball. I always seem to slice it bad, and have resorted to using my woods lately of the tee. No confidence in the driver at the moment. Still hitting 250-270 woods, but leaving myself long approaches in to the green.

An over the top swing will only be magnified with a driver.

Yeah I've tried to correct it by doing a more out to in swing as well as closing the head more when I line up for the ball. This seems to help about 75% of the time, but when I miss its bad. Kinda frustrating to because I bought a Rocketballz 2 driver about a year ago, and I don't seem to use it a lot. When I do connect well though, the drive is 290-315.
