Wait, what? He was the rapper of his day. Drugs, thai thickies, government sucks. ...

I remember when it happened and wondered why it was such a big deal to announce at that time. Now looking back on it, doesn't appear that awkward to me.

On the OTL segment this afternoon they did probably a 15 minute feature on it. Suggest you watch it if you can find it. Provides a lot of detail on how ABC found out and what they went through before it was announced.

but with no guns, killings, or really any thuggish shite in his music, he did question the government, which they always should be, and if you watch one of the last public interviews of him, he denounces drugs, and says he hasn't used any in a while, and says to make your own choice, but advises against it, what a dick

Sounds exactly like Eminem

Dammitt. I was 7 when this happened.
I guess my memory from back then is a little sketchy.

Lennon would probably give him the time of day, but eminem couldn't wipe Lennon's arse as far as having any musical talent or having anything to say that anyone of greater intelligence than a doorknob would want to hear

I think you overestimate Lennon, but either way they are very similar.
Just a different decade.

I'm old enough to remember seeing them perform on the Ed Sullivan show in the '60s. Although I didn't agree with much of what Lennon represented, I do acknowledge he was a hell of a musician and songwriter.

I guess I'm just dense, but I really have no idea what is so bad or awkward about that. Seemed pretty straightforward to me.
what he said ^

maybe, but I don't think I need to stick up for him, he can stand on his own, and they'll be playing his music for as long as there is a way to play it, m&M, not so much

They were good songwriters, but only so so musicians. Their guitar solos are clumsy and childlike, but the songs are epic. I think my favorite compilation is Anthology 3. It's mostly White Album and Abbey Road, but it's studio out takes rather than the original releases.
I'm told Lennon was a pugilistic little shite in his early days, always getting into fist fights, so yeah, a lot more like a rapper than many would admit. The music was a million times better, though.

Except for Lennon could sing, and was an accomplished musician, yeah...

Really not a big deal. He was probably told by his director to do that. Today they would have cut away from the game to the news studio.

Y'all are both correct. Lennon is overrated because he and the Beatles were pioneers.

Lennon is one of the most overrated musicians of all time.
