Yeah I have started to eat better and already notice the difference. My cardio sessions are pretty hard, but I watch netflix and the time flies by. I typically burn 450 calories in that 30 minutes

Ok keep it up then.

Maybe lower the intensity or lower the volume. Choose one. See what happens.

Working out abs will not increase the chance of a 6 pack. Body fat will determine that, and genetics will determine shape and size possibilities.

But they can be worked out fairly often. Theyre working all day everyday basically.

Add in a pack a day and this is pretty much mine.

Every day when I squat, deadlift, and do overhead press. I might throw in some planks or crunches at the end of the workout, but it's really not necessary until your body percentage drops enough. Sure, you can do more work if you have terrible core strength, but they get plenty of work doing other stuff.

So, you do only arms on one day. Very little damage to the overall muscles in the body occur. Therefore, not a ton of hormonal changes are happening. These arm muscles recover with tremendous speed, you can literally do them EOD.

I agree to an extent but it really comes down to the intensity of lifts when determining how much rest you need. The type of lifts you are doing with your biceps, the number of sets/reps, the amount of time you're spending - basically just overall intensity.

If you kill it, you're going to need more than 48 hours.

Reminds me of this guy I saw at my gym this morning

I got there at 5am to squat. He comes in on my 2nd to last front squat set and starts doing seated dumbell curls in the mirror. I do my last 2 front squat sets, a set of calf raises and I am out. I get out to my car in the parking lot and sure enough he is walking back to his car too. It was probably no more than 12 minutes between the time I saw him curl in the mirror and walk back to his car in the lot.

Never

Abs are another thing that are made in the kitchen. You can do all the crunches and sit ups in the world and it wont make a lick of difference if your body fat % is too high

I never do ab exercises. Pointless. You get strong abs from dead lifting, chin ups and squatting and basically just lifting in general. Show me a guy who can dead lift 2.5-3x his body weight who has weak and under-developed abs. Yeah, no.

Ignore the fatties here.

With that being said, I would remove one day of cardio. Back from my days of doing Insanity, it was 5 days of hell with Sunday off and recover day Wednesday or Thursday.

With that much cardio, I assume you are not going for muscle mass and a more lean athletic build.

If the arms are being brought to that level of fatigue, which I doubt most regular gym goers do, then the entire workout routine would be limited.

If you want to lose weight and get leaner I would do HIIT instead of cardio

How would you suggest someone get back into leg workouts? I have had severe plantar fasciitis for several years and had surgery in Jan to fix. Getting back in the gym and trying to lose some of the weight I put on over the last 3-4 years. Been lifting but my legs are in terrible shape.

Tried to squat last week and was only using 75 pounds of total weight. The weight is not the problem but the soreness and recovery was a bitch. I know I need to be doing squat and deadlifts but it has sucked. Any tips on getting back into it or do I just need to power through soreness?

ETA: I am as heavy as I have ever been and just getting back into this. I know weights has to be a large part of my weight loss training.

Yeah, I was speaking specifically to those bringing their arms to that level of fatigue. (1)More than 48 hours would be needed for rest. (2) It would be perfectly acceptable to dedicate a workout day to arms because the intensity of other workouts would be compromised.

It's really just a matter of what your goals are and how many days a week you can devote to specific muscle groups.

ETA: this isn't to say that compound lifts won't work those muscles. I'm speaking towards targeting specific groups when a particular goal calls for it

It depends on your intensity and volume, but for me I only really get the debilitating soreness after the first few sessions of a new exercise. Ater about a week or two I feel a little bit sore the next day to tell that I lifted, but I'm not struggling to get out of bed or anything.

If you are really having problems, then you can try foam rollers to help work out the soreness in your legs and such.

Power through

I had a similar issue, lower back herniated discs from my time playing football in college

I just powered through and now its fine. I think strengthening that region of my lower back via deadlifting is what truly helped

Should I be doing 2 deadlift and/or squat workouts a week until the soreness levels have gone down or should I try more? I really don't think I could have done anything leg related 3-4 days after my first session.

I feel like a bitch too. I was doing several reps in the high 300 lb range in high school and college and probably couldn't squat 200 today.

Start foam rolling and stretching the day after. Take up yoga.
