I really don't think I could have done anything leg related 3-4 days after my first session.
That's because it was the first session. You'll be fine after you get a couple of routines under your belt. Also, enjoy the newbie gains while your body is forming the neurological pathways to handle the movements.

Should I be doing 2 deadlift and/or squat workouts a week until the soreness levels have gone down or should I try more? I really don't think I could have done anything leg related 3-4 days after my first session.
One each per week

I feel like a bitch too. I was doing several reps in the high 300 lb range in high school and college and probably couldn't squat 200 today.
My squat max was 475 my senior year in college
Today I squatted 225 for 6 reps and the last one was a challenge. I used my back injury as an excuse not to squat for 6 years and lost pretty much any leg strength I had. Had to start from scratch pretty much.
My back injury was a valid reason not to squat when the disc herniation was bad as I wound up in the emergency room twice trying to squat with it, but over time it kind of got better on its own and yet I was still a lazy frick about it.

If you're a beginner you don't need to devote an entire session to one body part. You'll see decent gains doing full body a few times a week for a while. All you're doing is spending more time in the gym than you need to.
I'm all about efficiency, and most people who spend hours in the gym 5-6 days/wk are doomed to fail in the long run because it's so time consuming.
People get confused following these bodybuilding type workouts they see online and in magazines not realizing that bodybuilders with Mass amounts of muscle are doing these workouts. They need to. The average Joe does not.

Take up yoga.
Does wonders for my jits game. I think it has helped in lifting too. I don't tell many people I know that I do it since it seems gay as frick to most baws but when Rickson Gracie says it works, I believe him.

Damn right. I've been practicing yoga for a while now. It helps with everything.
