In terms of prestige, Tech's at least managed to con people into seeing it as a legitimate major academic institution. No one has any such delusion about SWT. Everyone knows that's just a place the dumb but fun kids go to get drunk and frick. Tech has a full engineering program - SWT offers degrees in two or three disciplines. That's a pretty huge difference.

aTm's engineering program wipes it's arse with all but Rice......and its still ahead of Rice.

Baylor better in engineering....I think not.

Most of the kids who go to St Johns EHS or Kinkaid are zoned to Memorial or Bellaire it seems like so you could probably say the same thing

more or less but bellaire is not as good as Lamer or Memorial,IMO.

test score wise, bellaire is ten times as good as lamar ... and lamar is extremely over crowded, much more than bellaire ...

well, ethnically speaking, the jews do pretty good, also ...

i taught driver's ed on the side many years ago and had an asian girl from bellaire ... speaking to her mother one day after a session, found out the girl's made a 5 on all of her AP calculus/chem/physics/bio exams ... she was graduating and hadn't gotten her license yet ...

course, she couldn't drive worth a damn ...

SMU is a Country Day/St. Martin's college. Don't hear about too many Newman kids going there, at least that I know.

as a STM alumni (1986), this statement is spot on

Where's the love for Sul Ross State?

More seriously, I'm a UT-Austin alum and remain very thoroughly impressed. Basically every field of study is at or near the top and costs much less than Harvard.

Austin College in Sherman is a better school and tougher to get into than most big TX universities.

I met a chick on tinder that went there.

I know a bunch of trust fund kids from NOLA without a lick of sense that went to SMU. So

I know several as well, and while several of them are douchebags living off their parents, I also know a bunch that have gone on to do really cool things and excel.

I know Texas, Texas A&M, and Rice are highly regarded nationally.

SMU is pretty good on a national scale. It still has that country club stigma.

I know that TCU is shite on the East Coast. It isn't highly regarded or respected at all. It's scoffed at.

As for Baylor...I always viewed that as a strict, conservative Baptist school. I know Houston has a very strong Baylor Medical system, but I don't know much of the university past that.

Texas Tech has the "party school" stigma with it.

It's well deserved, but it should be said that SMU has an outstanding advertising program and there are a surprising number of creative types who go there

Aaaaaaand we found our resident SWT grad. They're always Horn fans who spend the rest of their lives pretending they went to UT.

An engineering degree from GT is only behind MIT, Stanford, and maybe one of the State Cal schools. You're fooling yourself if you say otherwise.
