a friend's dad had a great line, a lack of planning on your part does not mandate an emergency on my part.

or something close to that. in short, let them sink or swim. sometimes "no" is the right thing to tell someone like that.

No. I have had experience with me carrying lazy people and I've always found a way to remove myself from the situation to let them sink or swim on their own merits.

You’re nowhere near as smart as you think you are.

I didn't know you worked in the legislature (or for some other elected official).

I've had bosses that try to set unrealistic expectations. My strategy has always been to confront it head on, as early as possible and as directly as possible.

Tell them why it's unrealistic, what expectations they should have and explain that over-promising and under-delivering is about the worst thing you can do.

If they continue to put an unreasonable amount of pressure on you and you hate your life then leave.

I don’t worry about other people or trying to accommodate unreasonable, ungrateful assholes. I just do my best and enjoy my life.

Yeah we're getting more women working offshore.

I don't see people out here create a ton of issues for themselves as they attempt to do their work. I see a lot of people refuse to say they don't know how something operates, and just say what they think should happen. This wasn't the case 10 years ago. Operators knew their stuff. I find myself telling these guys that I'll look into it and ask for their procedure, which they can rarely produce. At the end of the day it's my job to figure it out.

I agree to that line…a friend of mine used to say that as well…while that is the correct way to view things, that dog doesn’t hunt in the real world.

I worked as a paralegal and runner for a law firm for 15 years. These lawyers were spoiled and in some cases clueless. They often had logistically unworkable demands. I did my best and played office politics as best I could but at the end of the day, some bosses/leaders only want to know was the task done or not…they don’t give a shite about mitigating circumstances they were responsible for, that if it was completed or not was all that mattered…then you had to clean up the mess and deal with any fall out.

I learned how to be honest and up front in my career at a young age and its served me well.
I'm not doing extra because half of y'all can't do the job you accepted and I'm going to let you know that.
It has helped me weed out the leaches and set boundaries with employers and co-workers alike. Not everyone is a fan of it, but that's how you know who is who.
