hell I borrowed a car and it had colored halo lights and I got pulled over and got a ticket. I had no idea how to turn them off. Pissed me off.

Only $70 ticket, I'm going to pay.

It was his idea to drive with a broken headlight and the other kid's parents are assholes. He pays, but if the other parents weren't pieces of shite, they'd take care of it

"Look Officer, I don't drink and I was at a party with these guys and they were about to drive home. I stepped in and said I would drive their car. I had no idea the headlight was out. Can you cut me some slack?"

99% of cops don't write that ticket.

The 1% that does needs their arse kicked.

I'd let the 18 year old adult handle it on his own with the other adults he was with.

The parents sound like morons. It's their car, so it's their ticket. It's not like the kid was speeding.

I'd be pissed at the other kid and his parents for sure. Completely irresponsible choices.

Ultimately, sounds like the co-worker's son will have to pay for the ticket. I'd make him pay for it (rather than paying myself) so that he can learn to choose his friends and settings better.
But then a few weeks later, I would reward him with something he's been wanting, or maybe an extra graduation present. Because he was being a stand-up guy. I think it is important for the co-worker's son to know if he was going to go to a party and make friends with people who get drunk, then it was nice to drive them home, but maybe he should've done something different...

Kids should stay home and drink. I would just want my kid to have a few friends over and drink. Nobody leaves. Everyone gives me their keys beforehand. Safer.

Your son having to pay it should be the last resort behind:

1. The drunk kid taking care of it.

2. The drunk kid's parents should handle it if their son can't.

3. The other drunk kids should pitch in together and pay it.

4. Your son/you pay for it.

Legally I'm guessing the driver is responsible b/c he was driving a vehicle that wasn't properly equipped.

The other kid's parents are still assholes though.

What was the reasoning behind their refusal to pay?

And pics of coworker, por favor.

Your co-workers son should pay the ticket. He assumed all responsibility when he volunteered to be designated driver. That's why the ticket was made out to him. It sucks but let it be a life lesson for the youngster. Nice guys always finish last

Man those parents sound like huge dicks. You must be from somewhere trashy. I'm guessing either Westbank, Chalmette, or New Iberia.

It's a shame legalities have taken over our daily lives. My parents let me have a senior party in 1977. There was no liquor or pot served there but some people got wasted beforehand or left and came back wasted. One of my drunk buddies had an argument with his girlfriend, was drunk and punched the wall in a hallway.

His parents paid for the damage, but the damage wasn't a hole in the wall. The house was built in the 30's and had laths with plaster over them. His hand was broken. He broke it while his was drunk at a party at my parents' home, but back then the family who's kid was a screw-up paid, not the homeowner.

One of my best friends had a kid climb his fence and get bit by his dog. My friend had to pay for the kid going to the doctor. Sorry, but that's just wrong.
