The system of triangular trade established by the Portuguese, Dutch, English, Spanish, and French Empires, and various African kingdoms was reliant on slave trade to the New World.
The triangular trade brought on the industrial revolution, which upped living standards and changed thought patterns. This, in turn, created modern science, medicine, technology, etc. It also allowed for the Enlightenment which established the basic philosophies behind representative government and civil liberties. Ironically(?), it also opened the door for Leftist ideologies like Jacobinism, which eventually developed into Marxism or softened into Progressivism.
Less than 5% of Africans enslaved in Africa ended up in what would later be the USA. About 95% went to Brazil and the Caribbean islands where survival rates were low.
The USA stopped legal importation of slaves in 1808. Our country had very little to do with African slaves getting to the New World.
Because of economic circumstances and the Southern states' prime agricultural land creating the raw product for industrial textile mills, the US was later to free slaves than other major Western powers, but Brazil and other Latin American countries retained plantation slavery for decades after the US Civil War.
The current tensions are based on what happened after the Civil War - Jim Crow laws, lynchings, and opposition to integration in the mid 20th century. We should have handled that shite better. We'd be in a much better place.

The US would would look much different. Still be the most prosperous country in the world at this point.

Well, a lot of “issues” in crime, education, and entitlements are are because of one group.
We’d probably look like what Spring boarded the US to elite status in just under 200 years. But because 13 percent of the population the country has allowed the special interests to drive the aa community into oblivion because their leaders votes are the easiest to be had. All because of forced/fake guilt and shame.
