They were obviously an elite naval power throughout western civilization and the RAF saved the whole of Europe, but their army doesn’t have the best track record. I was watching a documentary on the siege of Fort William Henry and the Brits made gaffe after gaffe and seemed completely unfit for land combat and you see it throughout wars in the 18th, 19th and 20th century, yet they had the largest empire the world has ever seen.

It’s pretty remarkable considering how weak their ground game was.

Naval game was unparalleled, and the Brits had purchasing power and best supply of ammo and weapons

The RAF saved England, not the whole of Europe.

Because believe it or not, they were the smartest group of people around at the time.

I would argue Nazi ignorance saved England.

British would not have pushed Germany out of France and would not have made inroads into Germany without USA help in WW 2

Big guns easy to move in big boats, harder to move without roads on land.

That, and they fought in straight lines wearing bright red coats.

The quality of food and women in the UK combined to make the British the best sailors the world has ever known

No one ever makes any progress without Americans.

Its really simple historically if you look closely enough

One of the biggest things is force projection. Its why even though China on paper is approaching the US, in reality there is a giant gulf in conventional capabilities. China cannot project its power very far from its shores. The US, as dictated by geography, “MUST” be capable of projecting power across large distances.

They controlled the water and they were truly master liars, I mean, diplomats.

They pitted locals against each other and played the diplomacy game better than any country/empire in the history of the world.
