I was at a wedding party a few years ago... There was a guy that been in the wedding group for at least 4 parties/get togethers... He heard my last name and asked if I was related to and he mentioned my mother's name.. Turns out his grandmother and my mother were first cousins. Before all the parties and get togethers I hadn't seen him since we were kids...

You got that right. I only see my first cousins, that I was close growing up with, at weddings and funerals.
as kids we saw each other every few months. There were a lot of us. As we reached adulthood it became every other year or funerals or weddings. As most of my group has grandkids if their own you don’t even see most of them at those functions

It is kinda sad, but I suppose that’s just how it goes.

Large age range (20 years) between my mom and her 7 siblings, which means an even larger age range in cousins (30 plus years).

So I grew up the same age as a lot of my cousins’ kids and everyone keeps in touch. So when we’re old it’s going to seem like we keep in touch several generations up and back down.

Italian heritage, no choice but to know family. Plus we are all named after our grandparents

My dad's Italian, so I know all about tons of relatives on his side in the Great State of Looziana! But was kind of stunned to do some research as an adult to learn how many relatives I have in Texas from the other side that I never knew or knew much about.

I’m told these are distant relatives but we’ve never met. Could be La’Boot, Sha’Boot, and Tre’Boot but I can’t be sure.

For a long time, every time I went to a funeral, my Mom would introduce me to cousins I'd never seen before.

I've got cousins in California I haven't seen in 50 years, and cousins in Washington I don't want to see.

I marry Molly McGrath.

My sister marries her brother.

Our kids would be double first cousins.

Not well to the point that we are pretty much strangers. Everyone is busy doing their own things

Heck, I have second cousins who've never been to the United States.

I have relatives all over the place. Many I’ve either not meant or only met once or haven’t seen since I was a child. My mom had 10 brothers and sisters. While my dad only had one brother, he had 10 or 11 aunts and uncles and tons of cousins.

Had one of my (if it was my dad’s cousin’s kid, is that my 2nd cousin?) cousins reach out to me a few weeks ago. It took me a few minutes to figure out who he was. Haven’t seen him since I was a teenager.

My mom is from Denmark, and I know her family pretty well. They have regular reunions that I attend. Next one is scheduled for April.

My Dad is from a large family, and I don't know anyone from his side. He had no interest in family ties. None.

Our family is spread all over the country. Unless it is a wedding or funeral we don't communicate very often.
