Definitely ask about reflux, the only sleeping upright seems to point to that. Definitely do not do CIO for a three week old. You can get a cosleeper bassinet that attaches to the side of your bed and that will be safer for baby until she is older when CIO will be more appropriate.

My oldest slept way better in our bed and I wondered if it was simply more comfortable than the recommended crib sheet over the vinyl covered mattress, per best practices. We put a layer of fleece under the crib sheet and she slept a lot better. What is baby wearing to bed? Both of mine always slept better when they were in footies or sleep sacks, even in the summer when I thought they would sweat to death.

I hope you find some answers soon, that is tough trying to figure things out with a new little person. Trust your instinct, there may be "experts" in babies but only you are the expert for YOUR baby.

This is not safe at that age. Are y’all breast feeding only or formula supplementing?

We had this issue with my first. Just screaming and crying and never sleeping. We did two things, both of which we’ve shared with several sets of new parents and it usually works.

1. Feed the baby more. Seriously. Someone else said supplement with formula. Do it.

2. Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit. Our baby HATED being swaddled, but the startle reflex would ruin sleep. Merlin’s saved us. We’ve lent ours to at least half a dozen sets of parents, and they’ve all sworn by it.

She's being breastfed so it's hard to tell how much she's really getting. Try feeding more. She's three weeks so you probably can't try gripe water yet but look into it. She could be gassy. Rub her belly in a circular motion right under the rib cage. Bicycle her legs a little.

Take a deep breath. Don’t get worked up and just persist. You will get lots of advice. Basically it is all bullshite.

Just try to enjoy the baby even when she is screaming. She won’t need you forever

Try addinf gerber soothe drops to formula. Could help some. Our second daughter is a month old and didn't sleep well at first. Found out she hated snug sleep sacks so we let her arms stay out and she sleeps 10:30 to 5 most nights. Very lucky so far.

Get a new doctor if they actually recommended letting the baby cry it out for 6 hours at 3 weeks old. It’s one thing for them to “fuss” some, that’s normal. But not screaming and crying for 6 hours

I'm going to be willing to bet the doc didn't say to continue the process for 6 hours. Doc probably didn't tell them any amount of time, but I'm sure the doc assumed they wouldn't allow the crying to carry on for 6 hours.

Ok, here’s some things to try

A white noise maker

A small crib that rocks itself continually

Bundling the baby up good in a swing that is battery or ac powered

One of our 4 kids went through a period where the only way they would sleep was in the swing, lasted several weeks but the swing helped us keep our sanity

nth'ing the food suggestion. As said, hard to know how much the child is getting while breastfeeding.

Swaddling helped my girl. Having the bassinet next to the bed just so we could hang our hand over the edge for that contact helped too. If the kid sleeps fine laying down while next to both of you, it's probably just a comfort thing.

Your babies crying isn’t a behavioral problem, so the cry it out method will not work, baby is way too young.

She’s is either sleepy hungry could also be the milk or formula that the baby is using that could make her upset. When the baby goes to sleep do put him her in the crib

It’s very dangerous for a newborn to sleep in the same bed as you. Don’t do it

yeah the people saying let a newborn cry it out are trolling or nuts.

all good suggestions. also try walking with the baby's stomach facing your chest and put your hand on the bottom and lightly pat while bouncing, helps with gas. overall soothes. then as you said, place in bassinet or crib by the bed.
