Had the same issue and same conversation. I'd been with them since they were BellSouth Mobility and dropped them within days.

Maybe double check before you take it out on Shell

I enjoyed the thread about corporate BS and the "phrase of the day". Having worked for decades with new paradigms, focal points, intensification...etc, I am reminded of the best advice given during numerous seminars.

We were asked "What is the most important aspect for a corporation to profit"?

Suggestions were advertising. Nope. Corporate image. Nope. Quality of the product. Nope. Salesforce. Nope. Logistics aka "just in time delivery" An aside, I can expand on this BS further. Nope.

He said the most important aspect of any company to be viable and to profit is...the customer. Period.

Without someone to buy a product, no matter how well it is made, displayed or delivered, if no one buys it, you will fail.

Gasoline is gasoline. I only used Shell because of convenience. There are plenty of alternatives.

Did you think Royal Dutch Shell serviced their own credit cards?

Interesting point. Shell is in the petroleum business. If they have contracted an outside entity to manage their credit sector, then maybe they need to revisit their decision of the company in question. Sorry for the BS corporate speak.

Like I said, and this applies to contracted companies, if you don't have a customer, you will fail.

Are you that douche who writes a check at the grocery store and makes everyone behind you wait? Just send your wife to Western Union next month to make payment.

Shell doesn’t give a flying frick about your 30 gals of gas you purchase each month, neither does the credit card company that Shell uses to sell their fuel.

Honestly, I don't give a flying frick about them either. It is what it is.

Shell is probably using a major bank to service it. Shell gets paid for the marketing and some basic administration, and the bank makes all of the money on interest and what not. They typically have some sort of rebate program where Shell pays discounted or no transaction fees on swipes at Shell, which is why they offer the fuel discounts.

It's a good deal for all involved, but Shell doesn't own that credit account.

I told him that I had made a payment a month ago, but the check hadn't cleared

So what do you think is more likely:
1. that it’s taken a month for the check to post to your account, or
2. that they never received said check?

This isn’t rocket science.. if you’re still mailing checks in 2019 then shouldn’t you also know how to stop payment and send a new check?

Yeah, you’re right. As you said, you should switch to your BP card. They probably manage their financing internally.

Are you 85 years old? Why are you still writing checks? Pay that shite online or at least revert back to 1997 and pay over the phone. Geezus dude...

My dad carries an inordinate amount of cash on him. Like 2-3k at all times. Dude pays for almost everything in cash. New tires on his suv? He'll by at the counter counting bills

I used to have a Bancorp South credit card. Was never late on a payment, but they closed it after I ran up some big charges pretty quickly while traveling on business.

After they did that, I couldn't pay online anymore. Had to wait for their stupid little bill in the stupid U.S. Mail and then send them a check.

Got sick of it pretty quickly and just paid off the whole balance, even though the interest rate was low and I wasn't exactly rich back then.

It still sticks in my craw, though. Why couldn't I use their Web site? Were they punishing me? They were the ones who closed my damned account. Did they not want my money?

Bunch of stupid hicks at Bancorp South.

I didn't realize people still had gas station cards. My roommate in college had one. We used to load up on beer and gas station nachos at 1am courtesy of his dad

My roommate got the guy at the gas station to add X number of gallons of gas to pay for however many packs of cigarettes he got, on every fill up.

I really thought gas credit cards had been done away with. Are Green Stamps still being given away somewhere? Can you still get someone to check your fluids at any gas stations?

So you prefer using the least efficient and most error prone method of payment...Not to mention the fact that they have no way to track if they have received said payment?

I guess some people are scared of technology and prefer to live in the past. Weird

Check? Hell, I met a guy at the TA Travel Center on Gause Blvd. who'll ingest them.

If you drive alot, the $/gal savings is legit better than most other deals, unless you're a frequent flyer for work etc.
Shell and ExxonMobil both have great cash back on gas programs.
