A little bit off topic but if I normally wear a button down shirt and dress slacks for work (no coat and tie) should I get a watch with a metal band or leather? I think leather is considered more formal but honestly I'm not sure.

The general rule is leather in the winter, metal band in the summer. You can have both though. Buy a springbar tool and you can change out any time you want. They are like $10 for the tool.

Although I assume since it's so warm in Louisiana, I could wear a metal band 8 or 9 months of the year?

You can wear the metal exclusively but the reason for the switch to metal in the summer is because the leather will accumulate sweat and start to smell. If you work an inside job you could realistically wear leather all the time. I swap back and forth because it gives the watch different looks.

I've been wearing the marathon medium auto diver (36mm) on the metal bracelet for about 6 months now almost 24/7 and love it. It felt microscopic for about the first 2 days (wore a 42mm for over a year 24/7) but since then it's felt perfect. I take it off only to put the big one on when I'm going cut trees or do some rough shite and it feels like I have a wall clock on my arm now. 36-38 seems to be the perfect size for me. No way in hell will I ever get another one over 40mm.

My wrists are on the smaller side and I still think 36 is way too small. 40-42 is the ideal size unless you have huge wrists, the only 36 I would ever consider buying is a gold day date.

Speaking of divers, I have the 009 and was gonna eventually get the 007. But my buddy showed me that Citizen actually makes an automatic black diver that looks very similar to the 007 for under $200. I thought most of their cheaper stuff was quartz.

If you are talking about the Promaster, it's an Eco-drive, not an automatic.

I have very thin wrists. 38mm is my sweet spot, and that assumes a thinner case, and not a massive diver that will never see a swimming pool, much less an ocean. I prefer the minimal / utilitarian designs from Sinn, and Laco. That said, my holy grail would be a Rolex Explorer, even though it's 39mm.
I do have a 1963 Omega Seamaster DeVille (all original) that is in dire need of servicing. It's only 34mm, but on my tiny wrists it doesn't look small at all. There's just nothing I can do about the wrist size.
