You're asking the wrong question.

The real question is "does anyone on the OT give a frick?"

kid's bday party on Mother's Day

Very selfless mother.

Think about it. "Sorry son, we won't celebrate your bday, instead we are all going to Olive Garden to celebrate Me!

Now from other mother's perspective. Freedom of not having to deal with their kid for a few hours. Sound bad?

I see no issue, we are adults and know how big bday parties are to kids, they wait all year for presents and cake, they come first.

Why do people feel the need to schedule love for Grandma only on Mother’s Day?

Why does your plans trump everyone else's?

You celebrate when you want and let them celebrate when they want.

I think I would eat a bullet if I had to stay home with my wife and kids every single day

The oldest is in school and the youngest still naps so that helps. We have a big house and the kids know his office is off limits during working hours and I generally do not bother him unless I need to. It isn't always easy but beats the alternative of him leaving before the kids get up, commuting a couple of hours a day, and only being able to spend an hour with the kids before they go to bed.

Why are you waiting 4 days before Mothers Day to plan a Mothers Day get together?

You would love my MIL. We sometimes don’t know until 2 days before Mother’s Day what is the plan. I still don’t know what we are doing Sunday.

Her birthday is always right by Mother’s Day so the entire weekend gets hijacked by her most years cause we are expected to do something separate for her bday on that Saturday and then celebrate Mother’s day with her the next day.

I feel bad for my sister in law. Even though she is a mom herself....the entire weekend is all about what my MIL wants.

My dad's side of our family has their family reunion every year on Father's Day weekend. My dad had 12 siblings, and he and an uncle are the only ones left from their generation. The uncle is coming this year, for the first time since 2015. The reason he doesn't come every year is because his seven kids, and their families, want to use that weekend for just them.

There are other cousins that don't come every year for the same reason. My family wishes the family that hosts the yearly reunion would move it to a different day, so the two brothers could see each other every year. The rest of the family, that is all closer to where we go, doesn't want to change it.

Every year, the big question is whether Uncle Bill, or any of his crew will make it. I'm glad he doesn't feel pressured to be there every year on Father's Day weekend, but wish we got to see him more often.

Mother's Day is nothing but a commercial holiday (and one of the worse days for eating out anywhere).
