re: How San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge works

I'd read that the Golden Gate Bridge is constantly painted from one side to the next. And when they're done, they start all over again. Which sounds like the most frustrating job ever.

In the early nineties, I remember riding bikes over the Golden Gate with my girlfriend on a beautiful day, with a large regatta passing under the bridge at the time. We had wine, cheese and bread in our backpacks and stopped on the other side to partake. Wonderful experience. San Francisco certainly has problems, but it is one of the most beautiful cities in the US.

I began my engineering career 69 years ago so I have to bring to your attention that this will all have been designed using slide rules and mechanical calculators and the blueprints drawn by hand on drafting tables using pencils, straight edges, squares, compasses, and other manual tools.
It was a design process of many years before the first physical construction began.

They unknowingly filter more joy and potential great relationships from their lives, in doing so.
They must think 75 years of life on Earth is a long time. I don’t. What a terrible use of and spirit for it.

Same. I’ve been there 3 times in 5 years and it’s great every time.
Just some tard in the south who watches Fox News
Yes, all the businesses in the San Francisco Centre AND the Galleria packed up and moved away because of fake news stories on Fox News.
LINK Oh, wait. That's from the local NBC affiliate. I guess they have been duped as well!
And the infamous "poop map" was made by some neckbeard in Deerfrick, MS, right? I mean, if the problem isn't that bad then it couldn't have been made over a decade ago by a native San Franciscan resident.
I'm sure there are parts of San Francisco which are still lovely, but the parts that aren't are extremely bad and have been growing. That growth in drug-addicted homeless is not going to change unless the city changes its stance on how it polices homeless addicts. The new mayor's RESET program and more aggressive policing in rounding up homeless addicts on the street are steps in the right direction, but I think they still rely too heavily on the mindset that many of the addicts are willing to go down the path of sobriety if you just plop them on it and point in the direction for them to go.
Addiction, especially to meth/fent is far too strong for that for most of the addicts on the street.
Perhaps start venturing out from some of the dwindling "safe" places the next time you go?

Cool video!
I split time between the Gulf coast and La Honda which is in the South Bay/Mateo County. I crossed the GG last week, and I'm always awestruck by the experience. Sf is wonderful, but like most American cities, it has its problems. I'm fortunate to visit there and NOLA often.
