I don't see what the big deal is about getting a colonoscopy, my doctor was great and put both hands on my shoulders as he performed the exam.

53, and for the last 3 years my doc has told me I need to get one. I suppose he's right. Doesn't mean I'll rush right out an do it, but I suppose he's right.

Nobody in my family on either side has ever had colon cancer.

Every single male relative (father, both grandfathers, EVERY single uncle on both sides and a few cousins), on the other hand, has had prostate cancer. I figure that's the one I ought to be worried about.

Thanks, Dr Corndog. I'll rest easy.

50. Just had my first one about a month or two ago (no problems, I'm good for another 500k miles).

The bad part was the prep. You're asleep for the procedure itself.

23. Had a kidney stone that didn't show on scans so doc thought it was something digestive.

The procedure itself wasn't bad. But the prep is terrible. No food the day before and you drink your weight in water/miralax.

I think I’d go at 40 if I was you.

I know 50 is the number. I waited till 59 and had no problem but a co-worker was diagnosed with colon cancer at 45. He appeared healthy as a horse.

Do it. It is no big deal.

I was shocked by the stats my doctor told me---20% of the population gets colon cancer.

You know, they could really drop that number way down if they'd stop testing for it. Like my grandmother used to say, if you go looking for trouble, you are certain to find trouble.

You definitely want a GI doc that does it with propofol

I second this call...I had the generic, Diprovan I think...anesthesiologist told me to count to 10 then pushed the plunger. Almost got there, made it to 9. Woke up 45 minutes later and had no idea they shoved a beta cam up my arse.

Um, seriously... is there any other way to do it?

Surely you don't have doctors that do it without, do you?

Prostate cancer runs in my family too. Getting tested is really easy (blood test). Some communities will even do a free testing event once a year. I have been getting tested every year since I turned 40. I encourage you to do the same.

My brother, who's a few years older than me, told me his doc gave him the option of staying awake. I guess they would give you a local? I got no idea how that would work.

2 words. It Wouldn't.

"Sir, could you please unclench? If you don't unclench, we can't do this. No, really, you have to unclench. OK, knock him out."

I've wanted one since 12.

33 now.

I've tried every year.
