Am I the only one put off by middle aged people with braces? Came across a guy in his 50’s on TikTok with braces and it sparked a discussion.

Guy I work with is 56 and just got them. Another gal in her mid 30’s in my office also just got them. Kind of the “cool” thing now I think

As opposed to middle aged people with jacked up teeth? Its unusual but whatever.

Unless you're doing it for attention, why not just get lingual braces that go on the inside of the teeth?

I got mine at 40 and had them for almost two years.

My parents didn’t want to pay for them when I was a kid, I was too poor in my 20s, our oldest kids needed them throughout my 30s and we prioritized them, so I got them when I could.

I’ve known people in their 50s that have gotten them. I’ve never thought of people trying to improve their look as off-putting but different strokes I guess.

Never too old unless teeth are going to fall out and need dentures

I got invisalign at age 34 and they fricked up my bite so bad that they switched me to traditional braces after two years for free. I got them off at age 38.

I've worked with several people in their 40s that had or currently have invisalign. No problems with it. Good for them for wanting to fix their teeth

Lingual Braces. Hahaha

I had a patient with jacked up teeth and needed braces and insisted on the lingual braces. Never mind that his teeth were so crowded they looked ridiculous.

Well, we referred him to the ortho man and even he tried to convince him that regular braces were better for him and more tolerable. He insisted and got the lingual braces.

He lasted about a week and had them removed. His teeth are still jacked up.

Seems like getting your wife a new rack would be a better investment by that time.

I don’t know anything about those, but based on my experience with regular braces, those look like they’d be a PITA. Your tongue would constantly be rubbing against them, and they don’t look like they’d be as effective or easy to install/adjust.

I didn’t get braces for attention but I wasn’t trying to hide the fact I had them either.
