What’s the wear bar show?

They said there is dry rot. If there's dry rot it doesn't matter how much tread life is left. Replace them. A sidewall blowout at speed is no joke.

Regardless of miles it’s most likely time

I change one tire at year 3, another tire at year 4, ….

When I was 16, my family bought a Chevy Colorado from an old man who rarely drove. It was few years old but only had about 10,000 miles on it. A few months later I had a blow out. The tires had dry rot. Change the tires.

Tires age out at about 5-6 years. From the day they are made the traction declines due to the hardening of the rubber. This is accelerated by how much time they are exposed to ozone and UV. So a car parked in a parking garage during the day and in a garage at home will see slower tire deg.

As often as you need them

You should figure on every 5-6 years, regardless of treadwear. Need to look at the date of manufacture on the tire itself to determine age. If they're that old, the dry rot assessment is likely correct. Just ask them to show it to you.

Like 49,000.
5 years.
You probably need new tires.
Some tires have a raised piece of rubber in the valley of the tread that runs parallel to the tread.. When the tread gets even with it, it's time.

Yea, I only posted after reading the title.

50,000 is a fair amount of wear. They may be worn out.
For rubber breakdown, look closely at the sidewalls. if you can see tiny cracks, it's time, regardless of the wear.

My wife’s last minivan had a minor recall so we brought it into the dealership. She calls me in hysterics saying the dealership called and made it sound like the van is on the verge of being worthless. After calming her and getting what info she had I found out the dealership had a list of items typed out with many highlighted in red with “repair/replace immediately for your safety”. This was a 2 yo van with less than 25k miles.

5-6 years from date on tire.
Do you see cracking in between the treads?

At that age if the tires were new in 2017 regardless of tread depth start shopping for tires

How many miles are the current tires rated?
