Lol I my exploits have been performed in competitions and recorded. Lester Earl beats up on soccer moms and men trying to get rid of their dad bods.

Where do you guys train? I am looking at changing up my scenery and switching to a new gym temporarily. After the family and I move I am setting platforms up in my garage to use the 5k dollars worth of equipment and bars I have collecting dust lol

AgentUtah>Lester Earl

Lemme ask ya baw, what's the shrug at the top of the OHP that Rippetoe is talking about doing?

I've been doing it, and it pops my ear phones out everytime.
What function does that serve to shrug at the top like that?

I'm in SE LA. Around New Orleans.

Hell if I know lol. Maybe to emphasize correct positioning for lockout? Sometimes people use "cues" like this to coach a lift. Most of the time, for me at least, these cues do more harm than good and over complicate things.

I have honestly never read any of Rippetoe's stuff, but I always see newbs pimping his name on the Internet and I haven't seen his name in any record books, therefore Its hard for me to understand the hype behind him. Same thing with Louie Simmons. I respect what he has done in his lifetime, but people act like he is the strength messiah. I have met Louie Simmons and a ton of his current and former lifters. A lot of the stuff he publishes to the public is not even used by his top level lifters.

My point is don't do something just because someone says so. Develop your training based on what works for you and what you like doing.

never tried that. I'll give it a go next time

I'm in the market for a new belt. What do yall recommend? 10mm lever belt?

Also, what kind of grip you guys using on deadlift?

I do too much of this and it tears up my hands:

Need to work on doing this

Do yall use hook grip? I've started to use it for romanian deadlifts, but it's pretty painful. I guess it takes a while to get the thumbs used to it.

Fuk hook gripping lol. It takes awhile for those thumbs to get numb.

I go over under. For me it helps to set your hands, then crank the bar(rotate) forward. It helps to dig the nurling of the bar into your hands preventing it from slipping as much in your hands. Another tip is don't peel those hand calluses and let them get thick as hell.

I use a regular buckle 13mm efs belt and it does the job. I prefer the inzer belts but I outgrew the one I had and they sometimes have inventory issues.

I'll admit I'm a powerlifting newb.

I've always been strong from lifting, just meathead lifting type shite. Never done a Wendler type program in my life.

I like it.
My Baw told me to watch Rippetoe just for the technique and form for OHP. The other three I understand proper form and technique.

Bus, I've been keeping it in my fingers. Like the second pic.
No wrist wraps.

If I did that my shoulder would pop out. Hell it was sliding in and out on inclines last week.

I mostly use over/under, I get nervous with the over under grip with the supinated arm since I tore my left distal bicep a couple years ago. So I tend to only supinate my right arm, but I probably should be alternating. I don't pull nearly as much as you though.

I have a good deal of calluses, but one tore while I was pulling 485 the other day. Started bleeding and hurt like hell
