10' away you just point and shoot. Best to have used your weapon enough to not be afraid of it, the muzzle flash, etc, but it doesn't take Annie Oakley to hit a guy a few rows away.

Especially in the dark and randomness of it.

Go to a reputable gun shop and talk to the poeple who work there. Tell them that you are wanting to take up pistol shooting and need help. Usually that's all it takes. For the most part you will not find more helpful poeple.
22 rounds cost 8-10 cents a peace. Center fire cost 20-50 cents.
Start with a 22. Much easer to control. Most gun ranges rent guns. Plan on taking lessons. NRA teaches both shooting and concealed carry.
The only way to get good is to burn powder. Good luck.

I always shoot better on night quals and combat courses. Always shoot better on the combat courses than the qual shoots too. Mainly because I am reacting rather than thinking about the shots. There are a couple of guys at shooting competitions I see regularly that would have zero problems shooting in such situations. This is the only video I have of one of those

In reality, lets say 10 people are armed in theatre. 2-3 of them, if we are lucky, are well trained and possibly helpful. 5, at least, are average and best, and if they pull would probably miss, and possibly hit bye-stander. The bottom 2-3 are almost certainly shooting innocent people and/or themselves. In the dark, no one really knows who original shooter was, so bullets just keep flying until everyone is all but empty. End result, crossfire of bullets probably resulting in multiple more deaths than one shooter, compared to 6-7.

Not trying to toot my own horn or anything but that's the exact opposite that happens to somebody that's well trained. You're trained to react a certain way and when shite pops off you do exactly what you're trained to do. Assuming you're well trained, there's no thoughts, you just execute. It's simple as that.
