Probably a lot but not all.

Here's an article suggesting liberal academics let censorship happen.

I think it's due to moderators typically having very small penises.

Last time I made a clever comment about censorship on this site I was banned for three months.

Ironically, this new identity-driven emphasis on equality and diversity proves to be ‘surprisingly paternalistic’ as it ‘construes individuals as too weak to withstand the rigours of critical discourse’.
Yep. Great article.

These individuals are weak in all facets of their character. They use these methods to hide their weaknesses.

I really don't see any government censorship. Maybe just individuals and companies, which is their prerogative.

In my experience most message boards that are over censored are for 1 of 2 reasons

1) Mod/Admin on a power trip

2) The group think is so strong that to keep the peace lazy mods figure it's easier limit speech that goes against whatever most of the site member's are for. It's hard to crack down on trolls when the majority of your core membership are the ones doing the trolling whenever an opposing viewpoint happens to find it's way to your site. (think about the poliboard, only way way worse)

Obligations to the sponsors has to be another reason. I've heard the ad revenue is better if you keep a clean and non-provocative forum. Not sure if that's true or not but it would make sense.

Funny how the liberals really aren't liberal. Rules and punishment for every minute thing. Very strange contradiction there. Its like they are parading as very left liberal but are really totalitarian right. Alpha meets omega from the back side of the loop.

Strange how there is confusion between being highly educated and having the right answer to problems. Didactic knowledge doesn't always correlate to correct application in a nondidatric setting. Im constantly amazed at the things that i learned in the university just dont apply to a real world application.
I think one huge issue is that statistics are being poorly applied and interpreted in research studies. If you know how to manipulate statistics or apply them poorly you can prove disprove anything.

I agree. I am never surprised when an "intelligent" person either displays immoral behavior, or shows a clear lack of awareness in other areas.

I think of intelligence like this:

There is a huge space of everything you can know, some pieces of knowledge are needed everyday, and some pieces of knowledge are not entirely needed (as in maybe you use 10% of a particular type of knowledge to implant into a patterned set of other pieces of knowledge to come up with an idea).

Think of a blank piece of paper.

So you have different "clouds of knowledge" : Empirical knowledge (think science/math/law, Knowledge of morality, emotional knowledge, maybe bodily knowledge (think athletes who can move their body in incredibly unique ways, hand-eye coordination, capable of manipulating their body in a unique way for a unique goal, yet of course they're not always physiologists) .

I think while all of those clouds of knowledge have great importance, when assessing who is "intelligent" the cloud of empirical knowledge far outweighs any of the other pieces of knowledge.

Its like that empirical knowledge base is a completely necessary part of getting to a point (i.e. becoming President), but maybe in reality, the right mix is 70% knowledge, and the rest is morality, emotional, etc. its the COMBINATION of those types of knowledge that create the optimal functioning person. We want to anoint those who have highly disproportionate amounts of empirical vs. other types of knowledge.

The issue is that we are far more exposed to the empirical knowledge than any of the other types of knowledge. The rest can only be assumed, and in many cases there can be deliberate manipulation of any other area of knowledge.

I attended a course on cognitive bias recently. Some aspects were almost terrifying in this regard. For an ethical, moral, well informed/educated, well intentioned person you can know still be totally wrong in your answers. Its frightening how the innate workings of your brain can work against valid/ reliable answers.
