Pets objectively add value to our lives, and if you have the ability to bond, they are literally like an extension of you as we evolved together.
I think most people understand pets arent human, but that doesnt mean you dont have strong connections to them.

Saying they are a member of your family and claiming you would spend ANY amount of money on their healthcare is absolutely humanizing them.

No, it isnt.
Thats pure projection. Most humans understand the hierarchy.

Just for reference in the US the avg lifetime total for a dog is roughly $35,000.

Premium chocolate treats is the best I could come up with here!

What medication is it? I don't remember Lysodren being that much.

Did you have yours treated ?
He started developing some signs, namely the pot belly, but he had a massive seizure the day after I took him to the vet and died right then. We didn't get a chance to treat him for Cushing's, but the vet thinks he had a pituitary adenoma that caused the Cushing's. It sucked but he had a great life. He was 16 or 17, but he was the best. Miss him every day.

I don't believe those figures, but even if true it includes food and any other expenses over their entire lifetime.
I would need to see a link and some justification. There are millions of dogs in homes around the country that probably get subsistence care at best.

Yes it includes those.
Synchrony Financial (major credit card/financing company) which is widely used in the vet industry came out with a study in 2022 saying the total ranged from $22,000-$55,000 on average.
Rover and USA Today came out with a similar study this year saying roughly $35,000.
Being in the industry I can tell you this is accurate.

You were just in a thread with people saying it’s ok to kill other peoples pets because they were pit bulls. And you were arguing with me because I said it was fricked up to kill someone else’s pet.

Just as I thought. It's bullshite.
Hint: The pet insurance industry puts these "estimates" out
A large percentage of pet owners are not doing any of these things, beyond food. Many, or even most, dogs don't get groomed, or get treats, or get boarded, and certainly don't have health insurance.

Annual Costs
Of course, your dog will need additional care to both survive and thrive in your home. According to our data, the average U.S. dog owner spends about $2,524 per year on recurring pet costs, including:
Pet food: $447
Toys and treats: $221
Boarding costs (assuming 15 days per year): $681
Grooming: $193
Pet insurance: $510
Annual vet checkup: $65
Emergency vet visit (assuming owner has insurance and pet has three visits throughout their lifetime): $407
All of the dollar amounts above are based on the U.S. average cost, and medical expenses assume the dog owner has pet insurance. For a better look at the state ranking for costs of owning a dog, check out the list below.

Yes, and if you were a literate man you would also know my view is not to kill Pit Bulls.
The issue is the owners.

Trilostane is the generic for Vetoryl.

That’s funny because that was exactly my argument. That it wasn’t the dog, that’s it’s the humans fault and you still went on. So, you’re not only illiterate but a hypocrite. Dude, go reread it if you can. Otherwise, what the frick were you arguing with me for?
I even said I have a Belgian Malinois which is not that far off from your dog (sorry for your loss) which your dog may have more of a pleasing drive than mine.
I said multiple times it’s the owners responsibility to keep the dog from getting loose, and even went on to say that humans are responsible for selective breeding for aggression. And still you started shite. And not once did you say anything to anyone who advocated poisoning and shooting someone else’s animal. Only me.
So, I’m not exactly believing that BS. I just got back from my vacation and don’t go back to work until Monday, so I got the time to post the receipts.

my dog had cushings. got a big ol pot belly and lost all the hair on his tail. i went the vetoryl route and it is expensive as hell. he still had to piss every 20 minutes, too.
he passed i think 2 1/2 years after being diagnosed. i cant really say how much the medicine helped in his case - he may have had a more dramatic downhill without intervention but it was still pretty rough.
sorry you have to deal with that. cushings is a pain in the arse

Go to any shelter and they're overrun with Pits and Pit mixes. Shitty people think they can reform a critter that has dangerous natural tendencies.
I've had reactive dogs. I kept them away from others and small animals, like a responsible person.
Pits are victims of circumstances. Shitty people breeding them for the wrong reasons.
