For that dog, every last penny.
I lost one who looked exactly like that earlier this year. Tough.

The prices some of you post that your vet charges you has absolutely prevented me from griping about anything my vet charges for procedures. Good grief.
1,800 bucks to neuter a dog?? I think I paid like 350 or 400 bucks out the door. Dog was never in a seconds worth of discomfort.

I just got my wife a new puppy in October. She has become like one of my children. And she’s cuter and cheaper than they are. Before this dog, I wasn’t much of a pet person. Now I fall asleep most nights spooning a dog. It’s pathetic i guess. My son says I’ve completed my journey to old millennial that says things like “fur baby.” (I don’t say that)
A friend has a husky that needed surgery years ago and it cost $10k. I told her I just wouldn’t have a dog anymore.
If my current dog needed a kidney, I’d volunteer. So I get it now.

I spent about $2k on an emergency for my pup vizsla. But, the age of the dog is a critical component to me. I hope she has 12 more years or more...the younger ones should be given a higher bill IMO.

All the people that will respond: Any amount of money, there is no limit, are all full of shite.
Will you spend your children's college fund? Sell your house? Commit crimes?
No, you wouldn't. At least I hope not.

Depends, can it pick up a triple blind across a field? If not, just bring me the collar.

Usually when vet charges are discussed I think a lot of people dont mention everything.
There can be huge variations in level of care between veterinarians which can change pricing. Imagine comparing a doctor at your urgent care facility down the street and a place like MD Anderson.

I’m over 20k for an adopted Great Dane that’s probably 6 now so at least 20k
Aspirated pneumonia 2 days in emergency vet and pills was $9000 in December of 23. A few Sundays ago he got bloat so back to the emergency vet $10,300 to unflip his stomach and spleen or $400 to put him down.
When we adopted him he was heart worm positive and had other issues that we got fixed and that was a few grand around 4 years ago. The rescue did not help and we went with the fast treatment on the heart worms because he was so young.
Moronic

I spent $2,500 when my dog had heartworms.
My previous dog was a boxer, and that breed is very prone to getting tumors. I spent thousands getting tumors removed. She also had a heart condition where her heart would stop and she'd pass out like one of those fainting goats. Daily heart pills were required for years.
My biggest issue with veterinarians is the constant upselling at every visit. And every vet I've been to does this. Unnecessary testing, supplements, premium dog food, that the lay person doesn't understand their pet doesn't really need.

I think part of the question should be "would" or "have" spent on your dog's health.
We had a rescue dog. Lovable hound type dog. Grew up with our kids. One day, coming home from work, my daughter was hysterical. The dog was spinning around on her arse. Couldn't walk.
We take her to emergency vet. Said she had a compressed disk. Said they could do surgery. For $5,000. Her mom was in Florida we were there, "Daddy, we have to save {FIDO}."
If it had been just me, I'd have had her put down. But, $5,000 later voila! Had her for 5 years after that until she died at age 17 naturally.
So, sometimes you can't put a price on their lives if you have the means to do so otherwise.

Sure some vets "upsell", not most and definitely not all. What you're referring to is you not seeing value in what they are recommending. Which there is nothing wrong with. Its your pet and your money.

All those prices seem pretty average except the neuter. Neuter should be 400-600 max. I hope your vet explained ahead of time how much a pain in the arse and expensive Cushings dz is.

Over the course of multiple years and several dogs, at least $10,000 - $12,000. Knee/joint surgery for a poodle, ear infections on a whippet, back surgery for a dachshund mix, spay/neuter procedures, etc.
And that doesn't take into account monthly heart worm pills, which are damned expensive, or the annual heartworm injections that I'll be going to as soon as the pill supply is exhausted.

She did explain it to me, all I can do is do what they say from this point.

My dog has Cushings and takes Trilostane. Get it compounded from Chewy’s on auto ship. My dog is on 26 mg once a day and it’s about $45/month. My dog also has visual impairment from it and was getting conjunctivitis regularly. So, now he is on Cyclosporin Compounded Coconut-Oil Ophthalmic Solution, 2%, 15 mL twice a day. Also compounded from Chewys. A bottle lasts about 3 months and is about $80.

Before we got my dog I had a conversation with my wife explicitly saying we're not going to go spend thousands on this dog if it gets sick...
Now we have him and I'd spend serious money to keep him healthy (assuming a good quality of life). Wouldn't think twice about spending the 5k you did.

That's a high amount, and more than I would probably spend. I love my pets, but I don't humanize them. They are animals.
What is completely dishonest is the people who say they would spend ANY amount. "there is no limit. I would spend my last dime on Pookie"
These people say this to virtue signal, but it's not true. And they know it.
