Racing is old fashioned. He has to actually do the deed, no artificial insemination. His stud fee will easily be in the six figure range.

ETA: and it's a crapshoot. Most of Secretariat's offspring didn't do anything special, while some lesser known sires have produced great horses.

Thirsty?

Thoroughbreds have to be conceived by "live cover", so he's got to be witnessed doing the deed and is going to get whored out more often than OP's mom. They're probably still gonna collect and sell his swimmers, too. Imagine how much money the owners would lose if that horse breaks a leg the first time he tries to mount a mare and has to be put down. They just won't make thoroughbreds with that.

I imagine they'll make a mint.

Reiley McDonald, a managing partner with thoroughbred firm Eaton Sales, explained the logic to the International Business Times. "If they stand [breed] him as a Triple Crown winner for $100,000 to $150,000 and breed 150 mares to him... you do the math, that’s significantly more than what he can make as a race horse during the season.”
