Yeah, truly nice places you might as well plan on dropping $300-500 after tip for a couple. I can't imagine justifying doing that 3-4 times a month but I guess to each their own.

I’m fully aware. I was asking if he was saying this was his monthly average.

The "lol poors" post after that makes me think he's exaggerating.

I almost think it’s more expensive to buy groceries for 1 person than it is to grab something to go

It is unless you plan it out. When I was single I'd buy big packs of meat, chicken etc and freeze individual serving sizes. It's about the only way to make it work.

I would guess the 3-4 nice meals out weren’t the only meals that he eats out

ETA: Never mind, mis-read his post.

ETA2: when my wife and I were spending upwards of 1k a month eating out (including going out to bars), we were probably only eating at home a couple times a week.

720/month for the wife and I in 2019.

That's every dollar of food purchased from somewhere other than a grocery store. As in that monthly figure includes some pretty pricey meals when travelling etc.

The average month we don't leave town is probably like 500/month.

See, I'd rather spend that $1k at a few nice places instead of a bunch of cheaper dinners every night. But I cook a lot so I want really good food when I go out.

It was more of a “I’m exhausted I don’t feel like cooking” kinda thing. This was mostly when we were living in New Orleans, so even our quick meals were good.

Family of 5. If we eat out, it is usually during the week at places that have kids night. Walk Ons and Big Mikes are great values on kids night.

Grocery budget is 800 a month for family if 5 plus MiL. Kids are 8,7,4

Eating out, prolly 100 a week or so.

Wife and I try and do a date night once every other week atleast and that usually runs 150 per.

So prolly 1500 total month.

No shite. If we go more than a week without going out for a nice dinner I get worried we aren't getting out enough. Most of the time it's Friday with the kids and Saturday us. Couldn't imagine going months and I have three boys 8 and under. Couple months is honestly shocking to me, especially if you are not poor.

Like wtf do you do on a weekend then? I like to stay home as much as anyone but Jesus.

If I sat down and did the math it would make me sick to my stomach, especially factoring in dumb shite like Red Bull and gatorade at gas stations.

I live by myself though, and it's hard to cook for one. I can eat leftovers, but I can't eat the same shite for 4 or 5 meals in a row. I can't eat sandwiches every day. I'd like to save a little money on eating out, but I think there are other sacrifices I'd rather make if push came to shove and I was hard up for money.
